Feeling nostalgic? Fortnite’s permanent OG mode starts today so here’s everything you need to know
Are you seated and ready for Fortnite’s return to its roots?
After years of packing the game with as much content as possible – some good, some outright awful – Fortnite is launching an OG mode today in a nostalgic nod to the past.
Fortnite has come a long way since its earliest days in 2017, and now everyone from 10-year-olds to your grandad is shooting their way through season after season and spending a crazy amount of money on skins. The game itself has changed a lot in just seven years, from the inclusion of hit TV shows to added weapons, mechanics, and even superpowers. Now, it’s returning to what made it an instant hit.
When does Fortnite OG start?
After a successful trial period last year that showed gamers across the globe were interested in reliving their prime on the original Fortnite map, the visionaries at Epic Games set plans in motion to include OG as a permanent feature. The new mode is also getting regular seasons like the standard edition.
“We’re going all the way back to day one of Season 1 for the classic Fortnite Battle Royale experience! As it was, Fortnite OG is returning, and always on, every day. Relive the origins of Fortnite Battle Royale, complete with OG loot, OG locations, and OG gameplay in Fortnite OG Chapter 1 – Season 1, launching December 6!” it said in the official announcement.
Fortnite OG officially starts on December 6, with UK gamers getting their daily reset at 2 PM.
Fortnite’s OG mode is getting some killer weapons, literally

In a perfect throwback to the good old days, Fortnite is doing away with lightsabres, magic powers, and laser guns for a more stripped-back approach to destruction and mayhem. Season one guns are listed below, but we could expect more options as the seasons roll by.
The full list of Fortnite OG weapons includes:
- Assault Rifle
- Burst Assault Rifle
- Scoped Assault Rifle
- Pump Shotgun
- Tactical Shotgun
- Pistol
- Revolver
- Submachine Gun
- Tactical Machine Gun
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
- Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle
- Grenade Launcher
- Rocket Launcher
- Damage Trap
- Ceiling Zapper
- Wall Dynamo
Of course, there’s a battle pass

Fortnite wouldn’t be the same without a battle pass with exciting skins, gun aesthetics, and its signature emotes. The first battle pass will run from December 6 to January 31 and will use XP from across all game modes, not just OG Fortnite.
As per the release, there are 45 tiers with a “modern twist” on classic items, with throwback favs such as Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber and Skull Commander all making an appearance.
Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to slide, mantle, door bash
Though Fortnite OG is stripping back the mechanics of the game for what made Fortnite stand out all those years ago, you can still expect the “quality of life” changes to be featured.
For instance, reboot vans will be present on the map, and you’ll still be able to see the sniper scope glints from a distance to spot those pesky campers. Max resources are still at 999, and the building mechanics will remain as they are.
Your combat might not change that much either as double pump is still enabled on Shotguns and movement additions like sprint, slide, mantle, door bash and moving while healing is there. There will be no wall running, sorry.
Happy shooting!
