Seven concerning things on your 2024 Spotify Wrapped that declare you a walking, talking red flag

Sorry not sorry, but I’m calling you out

Not all Spotify Wrappeds are created equal, and if you have a single one of these glaring red flags in your yearly roundup, I’m sorry to inform you that you’re in desperate need of therapy.

Spotify Wrapped is back for more fun in 2024, and though it has changed in recent years, it’s still giving you the chance to view your top artists, songs, and genres. Twitter has already been flooded with embarrassing Wrapped screenshots, and though it’s become customary to bask in the shame as a collective, there are some serious red flags I simply can’t ignore. Let’s take a look.

Listening to your full AI podcast

2024’s Spotify Wrapped saw the introduction of artificial intelligence podcasts, a shoddy attempt to cram more AI content down our throats in a world already packed with Siri-like voices telling us what to do. Seriously, has literally no one watched Terminator?

The information in the podcast is nothing new or particularly exciting, so if you managed to get through the regurgitated statistics you’ve either got too much time on your hands or a genuine love of AI content.

Either way, touch some grass.

Listening above 60,000

Part of the Spotify Wrapped fun is learning how long you spent listening to your favourite artists, with a survey from OnePoll finding that the average amount of time someone spends on Spotify a year is 26,637 minutes.

Though I understand that everyone leads different lives with varying degrees of music listening time, if your yearly minutes are 60k and above, Spotify should be paying you a subscription.

Your 2024 Spotify Wrapped is dominated by one artist

Being at the top ever so many per cent has always been a badge of honour among Spotify users, but taking this to the extreme says a lot more about you than it does about the artist’s talent. No one – and I mean no one – is that good.

It’s giving stan, not fan, and we all know how unapologetically messy stan culture is.

Podcasts and books: Maybe you should just stick to music

Though Spotify’s primary use has always been music, books and podcasts have become a staple of the platform over the last few years. Just like music, the podcasts and books you choose to spend time listening to say a lot about you as a person.

Red flag podcasts include The Joe Rogan Experience, The Diary Of A CEO, and The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast. Basically, anything involving a man and a microphone. The same could be said of books too, so I don’t want to see anything by Andrew Tate or Russell Brand muddying my Twitter feed.

In contrast, if podcasts and books are not present on your 2024 Spotify Wrapped then there’s no helping you.

The artists to watch out for in your boyfriend’s playlist

The music scene is constantly wrapped in controversy, from Camila Cabello’s love triangle to Matty Healy’s recent Twitter brawl. That being said, some artists like Kanye and P Diddy just shouldn’t be mainstays in your 2024 Spotify Wrapped regardless of how much you like their music.

Katy Perry should also be omitted from your Wrapped, based solely on her tanked return to music.

Not having a shame track

Though some might argue that having embarrassing tracks in your Spotify Wrapped is a glaring red flag, I’d argue that it’s more concerning not to have one. If your playlist is largely Taylor Swift and Adele and missing weirdo inclusions like Crazy Frog, the Glee Cast, and the Wonka soundtrack, I just assume you have all the flavour of a plain cracker – which is zero.

Not having a Spotify Wrapped because you use Apple Music

Not taking part in the annual event that is Spotify Wrapped is a red flag in itself, and I don’t want to hear any rubbish about Apple Music having its own version when literally every brand is doing yearly roundups. It’s not the same, and you know it.

If you’re not going to splash out on the extortionate Spotify fee, I get it, but sit in the corner with the rest of Apple Music’s four users and let us have some fun. You probably have an Android too, just shameful.
