York Professor recognised as one of the most influential scientists in the world
Professor Simon Gilbody was accredited in the global top one per cent of the most cited scientists
A York Professor has entered the top one per cent of most influential published scientists in the world.
Simon Gilbody, Professor of Psychological Medicine & Psychiatric Epidemiology at Hull York Medical School, has gained international acknowledgement for his extensive research and solutions on issues involving topics such as anxiety and depression.
In the recently published Journal Citation Report for 2024 carried out by Clarivate™, a global leader in data, insights, and analytics, statistics revealed the Professor to be one of the most cited scientists worldwide.
The published Journal Citation Report data evaluates scientists and social scientists who have shown exceptional and wide-reaching influence in their respective research fields. Each designated researcher must satisfy a specific set of criteria in order to pass Clarivate’s selection process, including citation activity, scientific influence and breadth of impact.
Recognised globally, Professor Gilbody is one of the leading clinical epidemiologists and population health scientists. As a result of his epidemiological studies and clinical trials, he has been able to relay fundamental discoveries relating to populational mental health.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, his research group observed the impact of lockdowns on the mental well-being of the population through a series of mental-health trials. This provided indispensable insight into the psychological implications of quarantine and how to best mitigate these issues.
His efforts certainly do not go unnoticed within the University of York; the Professor is the Founding Director of York Behavioural Therapeutics Lab and a part of the York Mental Health & Addictions Research Group (MHARG). When interviewed about his work within the university, Professor Gilbody expressed that he is “Blessed with the best of colleagues in Health Sciences and the Hull York Medical School”.
