Car crashes into University of York’s Biology department
The driver was said to have been intoxicated when he hit the glass wall of the biology building
A car has crashed into the University of York Biology building entrance.
According to campus security, the silver Peugeot collided with the building at around 1:30am on Saturday 23 November.
The driver was said to have been intoxicated and driving at around 50mph at the time of the crash, Nouse reports.
Hazard tape remains around the car, which has been left on the pavement outside the Biology block entrance on Wentworth Way.
Debris has been scattered across the road, with collision marks on the lamppost, and the glass wall of the building shattered. The vehicle had just narrowly missed the biology department’s entrance.
A University spokesperson has said: “Members of our Campus Safety team attended an incident in which a vehicle collided with a door to the Biology block on Wentworth Way. No one was injured and we are supporting all students involved.”
The incident has since stirred wider concerns about driving and student safety on university campuses. A student at the University of York who saw the wreckage said the sight made them “feel nervous, especially when coming home late”.
