People are confused by Colleen Hoover’s huge casting in the Verity movie – here’s why

Anne Hathaway has just been cast in the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity, and people aren’t happy about it.

The best-selling thriller follows the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer in New York who accepts the job offer of a lifetime.

It’s the second of Hoover’s books to be made into a film, following the huge It Ends With Us which was released in August.

Readers were really unhappy that Blake Lively was cast as Lily Bloom, and the same thing is happening all over again.

Anne Hathaway has been cast as Verity Crawford

It has just been announced that Hollywood icon Anne Hathaway will play Verity Crawford in the upcoming film. Yes, Verity.

She is the rich and famous author who is unable to finish her successful book series after a mysterious accident. Her husband Jeremy hires Lowen to complete it.

Colleen Hoover shared the news on Instagram, writing: “@annehathaway as Verity!”

“Michael Showalter is directing. Verity is coming to theaters, and I am so excited for this cast, the script, the director, and the whole team bringing this to life. Cannot wait.”

Deadline then confirmed that Hathaway will play the creepy author, which is the last thing anyone expected.

People are super unhappy with her character

People are really confused as they think the Princess Diaries icon should have been cast as someone else.

They love the fact that Anne is in the film, but she would have suited the role of Lowen so much better.

In the book, Verity is described as a woman with long blonde hair and blue eyes, while Lowen has brown hair and black eyes.

Hathaway is literally known for her long dark hair and eyes, so the casting is all wrong.

Baffled Colleen Hoover fanatics have taken to TikTok to moan about her character.

“Wasn’t Verity blonde? I don’t see it,” one person wrote.

Another said: “Why can’t she be Lowen, that makes way more sense.”

“Wait she’s Verity?? I was thinking she’s Lowen!” someone else added.

Another said: “This is not what I pictured when reading the book.”
