Y Plas is teaming up with Where You At to help you find your friends on a night out

No more ‘where are you?’ texts

Cardiff Students’ Union has announced its official partnership with the app Where You At.

The app employs a mesh network for location tracking and indoor mapping without internet or signal access, so even if your service drops, you can still be reunited with friends.

Downloading the app and adding your friends is easy, which means you can enjoy a safe night out by becoming familiar with the Y Plas layout and locating friends without relying on signal or Wi-Fi.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, simply create an account with any email and allow WYA to see your location (this can be changed at any time). You will then be able to see the location of the SU on the map, and once you have added your friends this will show up on the screen.

To let your friends know you want to locate them to meet up, you can send them a “ping” (this is the wave icon), or you can set a meeting point via the pin icon.

If anyone is going to get lost in the sea of the silent disco, especially after one too many VKs, it’s going to be Cardiff students, so this app should be able to help you with that.

Your group can split up with the peace of mind that it will never be stressful to relocate each other, as the WYA app states it “keeps people safe in disconnected spaces”.

It doesn’t matter if you’re partying it up at YOLO or Q, WYA is your best friend in keeping all of your favourite people safe.

This partnership is a part of initiatives to maintain student welfare on nights out. These include safety buses, safe taxi scheme, drink toppers, and searchers on entry among others.

For the full list of safety initiatives see the Cardiff Students’ Union page.
