Here’s who killed Merritt in The Perfect Couple and unpack *that* insane ending
The way I was left guessing until the end
The Perfect Couple was absolutely full of twists and turns, but ultimately we were all trying to work out exactly who killed Merritt during the Netflix show.
In case you need a quick refresher, Amelia and Benji are set to get married but before they can her best friend and maid of honour, Merritt, is found murdered outside their mansion. From there everyone is scrambling to work out who the killer is, and it’s all very tense.
Alright, so who really killed Merritt in The Perfect Couple?
None other than Abby Winbury was the murderer, but why exactly did she decide to kill Merritt? Well, Tag and Merritt had been having a secret affair which resulted in *gasp* pregnancy.
If the baby was born it would mean that the other Winbury children wouldn’t receive their trust funds until the baby turned 18, meaning they’d all have to wait another 18 years instead of mere months, as the youngest sibling, Will, was almost 18.
Abby doesn’t want to wait that long to get her money, and so whilst her husband Thomas tried to threaten Merritt into getting an abortion, it didn’t go to plan and Isabel stopped him. So, Abby decided to take charge instead and drugged Merritt by crushing up a concoction of pills and putting them in Merritt’s orange juice, before taking her into the bay and drowning her. Yikes.

At the end of The Perfect Couple, we all finally know who killed Merritt and all the drama sort of works out for the best as Amelia realises she doesn’t actually want to get married to Benji. Sure, it might have taken the murder investigation of her best friend for her to discover that but there we go.
Whilst she discovers it’s actually Benji’s best friend, Shooter, who she has feelings for ultimately she chooses neither of them and decides to just find herself instead.
