Urgh, Instagram has added comments to stories – here’s how to turn the awful feature off

Nobody asked for this

| UPDATED

Instagram is seemingly addicted to adding the worst features known to man – and now, on request of literally no one, they’ve added the worst yet. You can now leave and see comments on Instagram stories, which is absolutely hell. Are you someone with a mum who is likely to comment “looking gorg darling xxx” on your story? Great news – instead of messaging this to you privately your mum will now have it exposed for all to see. It’s cringe, it’s hellish – how do we get rid of it? I’ve got you covered. Here’s how you can turn off the dreaded new Instagram feature that adds comments to your story. For good.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way

As one of the unlucky few who’s already had the feature rolled out to him, I needed to discover this for myself. I have perfected the method to get this feature out of my life. If you’ve been cursed with Instagram adding story comments already, follow this to turn them off.

Go to your profile and click the three lines in the top right corner to go to your settings and activity page. From here, scroll down slightly to the section titled ‘How others can interact with you’. Click ‘Comments’. You should see a who can comment option, and here it says posts and reels or stories. Click on Stories and change the setting to off. You have just been freed from the cruel shackles ever.

Like, nobody wanted this feature. The whole point of Instagram stories to me is that you can post without any pressure of getting likes and comments from the public. You can do what you want and any likes you do get are just for your own benefit. With this feature, it’s another way for the world to showboat attention. You can thank me later for getting rid of it
