The price of a Tesco meal deal is going up AGAIN and I genuinely can’t take much more

Is there any joy left in this world?

In what could be the worst news you’ve received this week and potentially your whole year, I regret to inform you that from Thursday the price of a Tesco meal deal will once again be increasing. I’ll give you a minute to process the news, I know it’s a lot.

The price of a standard Tesco meal deal, which includes a main, snack and drink will increase by a heartbreakingly huge six per cent from Thursday. If you’re an esteemed member of a Clubcard then the price will go from £3.40 to £3.60, whilst those of us without one will have to pay £4 for our sandwich, up from £3.90.

Tesco has justified the increase in price by saying the quality of its sandwiches has improved and 20 new mains have been added to the selection. I’ll let you decide for your own whether that’s an accurate statement or not. The one silver lining is that for those boujee enough to go for the premium meal deal range, you’ll be relieved to know it’s remaining at £5 with a Clubcard, and £5.50 without.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Clubcard members will pay just £3.60 for a main, snack and drink, meaning our meal deal remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on-the-go. With millions of possible combinations across our stores, our recent improvements to ingredients and more than 20 new mains introduced this summer, the Tesco meal deal has got something for every taste.”

This is the second time the chain has raised the price of a meal deal, and during the cost of living crisis as well. It’s all too much. In October 2022, Tesco raised the price of the deal from £3 to £3.40 for Clubcard members and from £3.50 to £3.90 for the rest of us. I think I need to go and have a cry in a corner now.
