Young Sheldon spinoff bringing back the worst part of Big Bang Theory and I’m dreading it

How have we not moved past this?

Everyone brace yourselves, because it turns out the Young Sheldon spinoff is bringing back one of the worst parts from The Big Bang Theory, and I’m genuinely dreading it already.

No, not Barry Kripke thankfully, but the awful pre-recorded laugh track is making a return, in stark contrast to the original Young Sheldon.

That means a return to the canned laughter, despite the Young Sheldon spinoff being filmed in front of a live studio audience in a multi-camera setup. What made Young Sheldon so great was how different and fresh it felt compared to The Big Bang Theory, but I’m worried that a return to constant fake laughter will mean the emotional moments won’t hit as hard.

Whilst Young Sheldon wasn’t filmed in front of a live audience due to its cast being so young, apparently the change for the spinoff is due to budget cuts from the network. Young Sheldon was also a single camera production, although these are famously more expensive and take longer to shoot.

The change has the potential to be a disastrous one and could undo all the emotions Young Sheldon made us feel for these characters. Here’s hoping it will turn out okay!

Other major changes to the spinoff include Mandy’s younger brother Connor being recast for the show. In the original Young Sheldon, Connor was played by actor Joseph Appollinio however he’s been booted out of the spinoff show, and Dougie Baldwin will now be replacing him.

According to TVLine, Connor is described as: “A talented oddball with musical prowess who still lives with his parents. He is coddled by his mother, Audrey, and hassled by his father, Jim, Connor doesn’t fit in — even in his own family.”

Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory are available on Netflix now – For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes about the spinoff, like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
