Young Sheldon viewers spot a confusing time gap error from Georgie and Mandy’s marriage
Maybe Sheldon the genius didn’t always have an eidetic memory
Young Sheldon is one of those rare occasions where the spinoff actually became more popular than the original show. It’s also one of the first of its kind to be a spinoff getting a spinoff – Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage is coming out in October this year. However, Young Sheldon viewers noticed an interesting time error around Sheldon’s older brother Georgie and his girlfriend Mandy’s marriage, which came after Mandy accidentally became pregnant.
In season one episode 12, an adult Sheldon voicing over the show let us in on some very vital information regarding Georgie’s fate at the end of the series. After Georgie made a bet with his father that he wouldn’t be married before he was 25, Sheldon revealed that “Georgie married his first wife at 19.”
However, some of the more eagle-eyed viewers have noticed that the genius child may have gotten his facts wrong. Despite having an eidetic memory, the show’s timeline makes it pretty obvious that Georgie got married at 18 instead of 19.
After lying about his age to Mandy, he soon reveals that he isn’t even close to turning 18 yet after finding out that she’s pregnant. Considering the two get married pretty soon after, the timeline just doesn’t add up.
It’s most likely that this was just a production error, and the producers definitely didn’t expect the show to go on for a whole seven seasons. However, Sheldon actually could be right if you work out the plot.
So, Georgie turned 18 around the end of season six, and his birthday is in March. We also know that he got married in season seven. In between these two seasons, Sheldon and his mother Mary went to Germany for the summer which could have been around three to four months of time passing. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the series picked up as soon as they returned home: Many months could have passed between then and his wedding that we didn’t know about.
Also, Sheldon says his father died when he was 14, which would make Georgie 19. Based on Sheldon’s birthday, the year would be 1994 in season seven and since his birthday is in March, he would have already turned 19.
I guess what confused watchers was the fact that for most of season six, it felt like we were waiting an eternity for Georgie to turn 18. So it’s a little hard to believe that a whole other year passed before they actually got married. Although, this is only one of many major plot holes in Young Sheldon, so we can’t really expect them to have every last error perfectly explained, even when it comes to Georgie.
