He’s been in almost everything, so here’s a ranking of all Zac Efron’s highest paying roles

He got paid $8 million to be topless in most of Neighbours

He’s known to most of us as Troy Bolton, but if you had your head buried in the sand or are just much, much younger than me, you may instead recognise Zac Efron from one of his many other successful films. He’s Link Larkin to some, Ted Bundy to others. Personally, I associate Zac most with his characters of Matt Brody in Baywatch and Teddy Sanders in Neighbours. God knows why.

Whatveer your favourite Zac Efron film is, there’s no denying he’s made a mega successful acting career out of his talents. So, here’s a look at the highest paying roles of Zac Efron.

15. High School Musical – $100,000

The first HSM movie apparently only brought in $100,000 for Zac, being young and new in the industry. This was still a huge amount back in 2006 though and he went on to land two more films, which paid much more handsomley.

14. Hairspray – $100,000

via Prime Video

One of his first big roles after HSM, Zac played Link Larkin in Hairspray back in 2007 but was reportedly only paid $100,000 for the role.

Back in 2009, some older Zac Efron stans may remember the little movie he did where he played a 17-year-old version of the of the Friends star, Mathew Perry.

It didn’t bring in amazing views, but everyone’s seen it and it paid Zac a healthy $1 million for his part.

12. At Any Price – $1 million

The 2012 movie At Any Price starred Zac and Dennis Quaid and follows the story of a father who wants his son to take interest in the family business, but his son instead wants to become a professional racer.
It’s a lesser known movie than 17 Again but it still paid Zac $1 million so it wasn’t a complete flop for him.

11. Parkland $1 million

It was refreshing to see Zac venture into a new genre and Parkland was exactly that for him. The 2013 American historical drama followed the events after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963. Zac played Jim Carrico and was received another $1 million wage for the role. And my god, he looked good in scrubs.

10. Me and Orson Welles – $2 million

via Prime Video

In 2008, Zac starred in the British-American period dram Me and Orson Welles, playing Richard Samuels, a young man who meets Orson Welles and is given the opportunity to play the role of Luscious in the play Caesar.
Now this was a far cry from his days in the corridors of East High, nor was it like his many previous roles in romance films. Zac was paid handomly for his part, and was paid $2 million.

9. Charlie St. Cloud – $2 million

The 2010 supernatural romantic drama Charlie St. Cloud was based from a novel and starred Zac as Charlie.A supernatural romantic drama, Efron plays “Charlie St. Cloud,” the protagonist, in this film adapted from a novel entitled, “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.” Also starring the likes of Charlie Tahan, Amanda Crew, and Kim Basinger, this film struggled a bit in terms of reviews, but Efron still received $2 million for taking on the starring role.

In 2014, Zac earned $2.5 million for his role as Jason in this movie about three friends who agree to avoid commitments, but all get into serious relationships and try to keep them a secret from each other. Starring alongside Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, it’s definitely a good chick flick if you’re going through a break up or simply fancy them all, like I do.

7. The Lucky One – $4 million

The award winning film The Lucky One won payed $4 million, making it one of the highest paying roles Zac Efron landed. Starring alongside Taylor Schilling, Blythe Danner, and Jay R. Ferguson, Zac plays a U.S. Marine serving in Iraq.

I remember loving this film when it came out in 2016. Starring alongside Robert De Niro, Zac raked in $4 million for this part and to be fair, he earned every penny of it. Big watch.

5. The Iron Claw – $3 to 5 million

via Prime Video

After being released this year, The Iron Claw has proven very popular among Efron fans and wrestling fans alike. It’s estimated that his performance as Kevin von Erich earned him between $3-5 million due to his established status, the film’s budget, and his potential willingness to accept a lower wage for a compelling role.

4. A Family Affair – $5 million

via Netflix

Zac Efron was said to have earned $5 million for his role as Chris Cole in the 2024 romcom. That seems a lot, but is nothing in comparison to the alleged $10 million earned by co-star Nicole Kidman for her role as Brooke Harwood in the new movie.

3. High School Musical 3 – $5 million

via YouTube

By the time HSM 3 rolled around, Zac was probably the biggest teenage boy crush of girls across the world. Despite claims he earned less, it’s thought he got $5 million for his role in the final film of the trilogy.

2. Neighbours – $5 million

via Prime Video

Another award-winning film Zac starred in is Neighbors. Working alongside Seth Rogen, it’s no surprise that this film absolutely blew up. It’s hilarious and went on to win two Golden Globes and three MTV Movie Awards. Neighbours also stars Halstone Sage, who also happens to be one of Zac’s ex-girlfriends.

Zac got paid $5 million for playing the role of Teddy Sanders, the insanely annoying but incredibly fit neighbour of Mac Radner, played by Seth.

1. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising $8 million

Released in 2016, two years after the first movie, Neighbours 2 was just as funny as the first movie. We again see Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne’s characters’ go up against university students, but this time enlist Zac’s character Teddy to help drive them away. Zac got paid $8 million for the part, a price I’d be willing to pay for the car dancing scene alone.
