How did Cardiff make the list?
Uni rivalry is inescapable – whether you live in your course merch, or love to bang on about your uni’s position in the sports league tables, everyone always thinks they go to the most fun Russell Group university. But that just can’t be the case. What everyone really wants to know is which universities are the most fun. And from writing our essays to guessing each Russell Group uni’s stereotype, AI has got all the answers we need. So, here to help you make the right decision, or to confirm for good whether your uni is actually that good, is a list of the most fun Russell Group unis, according to AI.
University of Bristol
Known and loved for its harbour and street art, the University of Bristol was recognised by AI as one of the most fun Russell Group unis. It said: “Bristol is a vibrant city with a great nightlife scene. The university has a number of student-run clubs and societies, and its students are known for being outgoing and friendly.” Basically, it’s got it all.
University of Edinburgh
If you thought Scottish students seemed pretty vibey, you may be on to something. AI recognised Edinburgh for its accredited reputation and said: “Edinburgh is a beautiful city with a lot to offer students. The university has a strong academic reputation, but it also has a lot of fun activities and events for students to enjoy.”
I think Edinburgh deserved more – clearly AI has never heard of Fringe Festival.
University of Manchester

Another Russell Group A-Lister, University of Manchester impressed AI enough to make the list. “Manchester is a large city with a lot of energy. The university has a wide range of courses to choose from, and its students are known for being passionate and engaged. Apparently, there’s not else going on for Manchester apart from high population.
University of Nottingham
According to AI, you can’t really go wrong studying at University of Nottingham. “Nottingham is a historic city with a lot of character. The university has a strong academic reputation, but it also has a lot of fun activities and events for students to enjoy”. A fairly generic response, but clearly all round cool place to study.
Cardiff University
Basically repeating the likes of Edinburgh, Cardiff University surprisingly made the cut as one of the most fun Russell Group unis to study at. AI said: “Cardiff is the capital of Wales and is a great city for students. The university has a strong academic reputation, but it also has a lot of fun activities and events for students to enjoy”.
We didn’t ask for the geography lesson but nevertheless, AI rates you for studying here. It’s a good job, because no one else really cares.
