Meet the QMU committee candidates & nominees
‘The QMU is one of the most historic music venues in Glasgow and live music should be at the forefront of everything we do’
The Queen Margaret Union is renowned for its inclusive events since 1890. Whether you’re a student or not, the QMU caters to everyone with their outstanding music events, some of which were Nirvana, The Smiths, George Ezra, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Charlie XCX, Snow Patrol, Billy Connolly, Sam Fender and Queen… Just to name a few. Founded to provide women with a place to host meetings and leisure amenities, it gradually grew to become one of the most inclusive unions on Glasgow Uni campus.
Running for President are Dan Rogers and Fatima Saeed.
Running for Vice President-Membership, Clubs and Societies is Iris Duane while running for Vice President-Board of Management is Frances Breslin.
For C&C Convenor we have Kirsty Arnaud, for Events Convenor is Matilda Royston, and runner for Publications Convenor is Ailsa Morgan.
Runner for Social Convenor is Ross Bryson and for Welfare Convenor is Alejandra Paja Garcia.
Last but not at all least we have the candidates for Current Student Representative A;Grant Simpson, John Steel, Martin Aasterud, Toyah Jane Stoker with Adam Meek running for FY Current Student Representative B, and David Grindlay as candidate for Former Student Member.
“I’m running for VP because I believe the QMU should and can be a much bigger presence on campus”, said Frances Breslin, a third year studying astrophysics.
“The QMU is one of the most historic music venues in Glasgow and live music should be at the forefront of everything we do. I hope that we can foster and promote student talent and be the home of music on campus”, Frances continued.

The VP candidate finished up arguing that “the QMU has always been known as the alternative union and as such we should be an inclusive and safe space on campus. With the return of weekly Wednesday club nights I hope to cater to the diverse student population by putting on a range of club nights in collaboration with student clubs and societies. As students move away from drinking culture, it is vital we put on consistent and varied events that best enhance the student experience”.
