Leeds hall of residence denies locking gate in fire exit fiasco

A private hall of residence catering for Leeds-based students has denied responsibility for causing a fire hazard and is has now begun an investigation into the incident.

Yesterday, images emerged of a fire exit locked with cable ties at IQ Marsden Hall. This didn’t stop Leeds Beckett Uni saying it wasn’t actually a fire exit, despite there being a sign on the gate which read: “Fire Exit.”

Many are now left wondering who was responsible for the incident, with some blaming Leeds Uni and Leeds Beckett Uni, despite the fact neither institution runs the hall.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued a statement in which they say IQ Student Accommodation “have confirmed that they did not secure the exit.”
