Two men have been stabbed in a burglary in Withington

Two young men were stabbed following a burglary in south Manchester this morning.

At around 12.45am, there was a raid at a flat on Kingswood Road in Withington in which a man armed with a knife took a watch.

Shortly after, two men, aged 22 and 23, were stabbed in a corridor outside the flat. They were taken to Royal Manchester Infirmary with non life-threatening injuries.

Police were investigating and cordoned off this section of Kingswood Road, where most of the residents are students. However there is no longer a police presence in the area.

There appears to be splattered blood outside the house in question, as well as broken glass.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed there had been “some form of confrontation” in which the two men suffered stab injuries.

A neighbour claimed to have heard noises coming from the property, which is not unusual as they often have parties late into the night. She was woken up by banging and thudding, she said it sounded as though someone had been thrown against a wall. She added, “There were a lot of angry grunts as well. It just sounded like a fight.

“Then afterwards I heard someone run downstairs and out the door a glass or something was smashed, and I looked out of my window and there was a guy in a grey car parked outside near the church he started to drive off then another guy ran out and was trying to get in the back door. He did, and the car sped off towards Ladybarn.”

Another witness spoke to the M.E.N, “Five more seconds and he wouldn’t have waited for the other guy to get in. He was really speeding. I thought the other guy was going to end up under the car at one point.”

This is an area popular with students, with one resident adding that there’s “a lot of activity”, with people “always going in and out.”
