Warwickshire rated sixth best European travel destination
Lonely Planet likes our “unhurried Heart-of-England rhythms”
Lonely Planet placed Warwickshire in sixth place out of 10 top travel destinations in Europe, in its 2016 Guide to Europe.
Lonely Planet gave Warwickshire such a high ranking due to its “bucolic hills, sublime castles, historic market towns and unhurried Heart-of-England rhythms”.
It cites Stratford-upon-Avon, Kenilworth Castle and Warwick Castle as reasons for its high ranking, stating that these places are worthy of tourist attention.
Third year history student Joe McManus was shocked at the ranking, saying: “Wow, I knew Warwickshire was beautiful, but this surprises me”.
However, Angus Hamill, a maths finalist, said: “Northern Dalmatia is 10th and Warwickshire is sixth? They probably just put it on there so English people don’t get offended.”
Adam Richardson added: “There are not only nicer parts of England, but nicer parts of Europe”.
Whilst certainly a shock, it is a ranking that we should be proud of nonetheless.
