Is the Whitworth Park stabbing a hoax?

On Thursday night some of you took to Yik Yak to express your concern about an alleged stabbing in Whitworth Park.

But did it actually happen?

Again?

Significant details appear to be missing from the accounts of those who claim it happened. Some even claiming to “know the person” who was stabbed, but failing to add any more information.

We called the Greater Manchester Police press office, the University of Manchester press office and Whitworth Park. None of them knew anything about the alleged incident.

Others on Yik Yak expressed their doubts regarding the legitimacy of these claims, saying it was a “hoax”.

It is possible, despite the lack of information from the police and University, that the incident did in fact occur. But if it didn’t, who are the people who fabricate such rumours? Don’t you have exams to entertain yourself with?
