Union votes against NUS referendum

Union Council has voted against allowing a referendum on UEA’s NUS affiliation.
The motion, which was debated in council last night, would have allowed students to vote on whether or not they wanted UEA to stay part of the NUS.
The referendum was defeated with 68 per cent of council voting against it.
Many key union figures, including all of the current union officers, opposed the motion.

Despite the overwhelming support for the NUS in council, many students took to YikYak to vent their frustrations.
Calls for a referendum came just days after the election of new NUS president Malia Bouattia who has faced allegations of anti-semitism and endorsing terrorism.
