‘It’s the work of cretinous vandals, needless destruction’: Thieves ruin third year’s motorbike

Third year Archaeologist Joss Wellings was baffled when he woke earlier this week to discover his beloved motorcycle had disappeared.

But his confusion turned to horror when the police told him the bike had later been found torched and discarded on the nearby Donegal Road.

Joss, who had brought the bike to Queen’s from his home in Hereford, England,was surprised to find “a smug looking blue Peugeot” in the space where his prized possession had been sitting on Lawrence Street.

“I took a walk around the block before calling the police who called me a few hours later to say they had found the bike.”

The police told Joss that a fire had been reported near the Donegal Road area, and a fragment of number plate remained which allowed the charred remains to be traced back to Mr Wellings.

The bike was discovered in a derelict skate park on Sandy Row, and Joss was told he would have to recover it himself, or face a fine.

“Me and a few friends dragged the battered carcass to my flat, where it’s still sitting now.”

When asked how he felt about the crime, Joss was understandably outraged and angered.

He says: “I don’t understand why people are so heartless. If the bike had been broken down for parts maybe that would make sense, but needlessly burned?

“It’s the work of cretinous vandals, needless destruction which I will never understand”

The arson attack is the latest in a string of incidents this term, after several cars were burnt out in various student areas of South Belfast.
