A Night of High Fashion at FREVD’S

On Sunday night, FREVD was host to the inaugural event of Oh For Fashion’s Sake, a newly arrived Fashion Society, in a catwalk event themed on Philip Pullman’s “The Northern Lights” book and film in conjunction with Oxford Cocktail Society to raise money for the Oxford Gatehouse, a charity fighting homelessness in Oxford.

Former model and Founder of Oh FFS (witty, we know) Sarah Fan, a second year student at St. Peter’s College, spoke to The Tab of how the event had taken four months of planning, and thanked her partner Beth Timmins for being “the creative one”.

Sarah went on to say “I chose the Gatehouse because I’ve always wanted to do something for the homeless, especially in the cold winter months. I hope that we can continue to do these events to raise even more money, while also giving people something to do on a Sunday night.”

According to Sarah, “FREVD was a natural choice, as it already has a catwalk.”

Doors opened at 8pm, and even though the actual show didn’t start until 9:30, it quickly became hard to find decent seat for all the people.

The evening itself was spectacular, with twenty models both male and female showing the finest clothes that vintage shop The Ballroom and Coast (as well as some devious wardrobe searching) could find.

Freddie Drapkin, a model from New College, had never actually done any modelling before: “I was approached just after playing football… Wearing nice clothes is always okay though.”

Veteran Merri Leston praised the relaxed atmosphere: “It’s way more fun than professional modelling.”

Cai did have this to say: “We have big plans for the next year: watch this space!”
