Largest Half Marathon in 20 Years

Over 8,000 people joined in the Liverpool Half Marathon yesterday, running the 13 miles starting and ending at Pier Head.

This year’s half marathon had the largest number of participants for 20 years.

8,400 people took part, including third year Law student Becky Clare.

Initially just running for fun, Becky raised £320 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Speaking to The Tab, she said:

“Initially I was just going to do the race for fun and not raise any money but I raised £320 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital which I’m really pleased about.

“I really enjoyed it as the atmosphere was amazing, there were people cheering the whole way along the route and all the runners were encouraging each other.”

The heavy rain and sleet showers didn’t put any one off, but fortunately the weather cleared just in time for everyone to enjoy Paddy’s Day.
