Hallam graduate and young rugby player dies in sleep

He was 25 years old

Gareth Puttock, a graduate from Sheffield Hallam, has sadly passed away in his sleep.

The 25-year-old from Devon was a promising rugby player and played for Hallamshire RUFC when he was at University. After graduating, he moved to Leeds to work for Lloyds Banking Group where he continued to play rugby in his spare time.

He hadn’t been ill, and the alarm was raised when he failed to turn up to work the next day. He died earlier this month.

He was due to be named “Clubman of the Year” at his rugby club’s award ceremony, but sadly passed away before he was able to receive it.

Mick Mulligan, the club secretary said, “He played every week and was a big part of the social scene. He was a young lad and rugby was a big part of his life. He was just a very well thought-of lad, very nice and very sociable.”
