The Nottingham restaurants you need to put on your bucket list

Whether you are just settling into life in Notts, or been here a while, you might not know about the array of great restaurants we have.

Here is a list of those that are not to be missed before the end of the year.

1. Sexy Mamma Love Spaghetti

Located in Hockley, this may be a small restaurant, but its pasta is mighty. It does a range of fresh Italian dishes that are always delicious and the menu changes regularly so there is always something fun and fresh. I took my parents here in my second year, and they were impressed, so feel free to use this for your line of – “I know a place”.

2. The Bagel Project

If bagels have no fans, I’m dead.

For so long, I would say to my friends I was craving a proper bagel and then heard about The Bagel Project, and let me tell you – it did not disappoint. They have such a good range of well-loaded bagels, and as someone who has tried most things on this menu, I have yet to find one that has let me down. This is good if you are after somewhere quick for lunch and their coffee is great too!

3. May Sum

This place does bottomless Chinese. Need I say more?

On Upper Parliament Street and ideal for the student budget, it does incredible food and if you are ready to put a shift in, you can really get your money’s worth with it coming in at £10-£15 depending on the day. May Sum also has a big variety, so is even safe to take your mate who only eats chicken and chips whilst you devour a plate of Chinese stacked with noodles, duck pancakes, squid, chicken balls, and anything else you can think of.

4. Fat Hippo

This is about to be a big statement, but Fat Hippo does the best burgers I’ve ever had, they are insane.

Located a street over from Sexy Mamma Love Spaghetti, this is the best burger option in Notts, and the staff are always lovely. It also does takeaways and I can confirm the burgers are equally as good to eat from the comfort of your own home.

5. Zaap Thai

With a cool interior design, this restaurant offers authentic Thai street food that doesn’t disappoint. The restaurant itself has an excellent ambience so might be an option to take that Hinge date you have been putting off to avoid the awkward silences. It’s the food equivalent of “isn’t the weather lovely today?”

6. Sushimania

Another all-you-can-eat option – Sushimania.

I am going to confess that I haven’t actually been here because I don’t like sushi (sorry, not sorry), but my housemates rave about it all the time and begged me to add it to this list, so go here for excellent sushi if your heart desires to eat as much raw fish as you can.

7. Yorkshire wraps from the Christmas market

These deserve a special mention, as they have an important place in my heart.

Although not a restaurant, these are a great dinner option from the Christmas market, which excitingly starts next month. It is safe to say a lot of my student loan gets spent at this stall during the second half of term, but I think I’m okay with that.
