Emmy noms and new shows: What the Baby Reindeer cast have been up to since Netflix series

Yes, they still hang out

It’s now been months since we saw the cast of Baby Reindeer in what would go on to become one of the most successful Netflix shows in history.

Since the show dropped, the cast of Baby Reindeer have seen themselves become overnight global names, and have been recognised everywhere – from on the street getting their morning coffees, to at some of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world.

So, here’s a rundown of all the major things the cast of Baby Reindeer have been up to since the Netflix hit.

Richard Gadd has called his life since Baby Reindeer ‘bedlam’ and ‘chaos’

It seems like life since Baby Reindeer has completely changed for writer and cast member, Richard Gadd. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, he called the experience “bedlam” and “chaos” and shared how he was “so surprised about it all”.

Speaking about how his life has changed, he said: “I don’t Google the show or myself – I still keep a quiet life. But I have noticed the crazy part of it, the sudden public attention with people coming up to me and the sudden feeling that there’s more eyes on me all the time.

“In the weeks after the show came out, I went from 3k followers on Instagram to over 400k now [this number is now over 600k]. It’s surreal. I never expected it to pop like this. I thought maybe it could be a cult success but in terms of the global reach, I feel like I’m going to wake up one day and it’s all been a dream.”

Richard Gadd, Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau have all been nominated for Emmys

In total, Baby Reindeer has 11 Emmy nominations, a lot of which being nods to the individual cast members. Richard Gadd, Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau were all among names listed for the awards, for their performances in the Netflix show.

“I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams when I was writing this show in my tiny flat during Covid that it would go on to have 11 Emmy nominations,” Richard said. “I am so grateful to the academy for recognising this show. You have made a little boy from a tiny Scottish town’s dreams come true and I am crying, with happiness, even as I write this.”

This is Jessica’s first Emmy nom, and she said: “Overwhelmed doesn’t really cover it, astonished might be more apt.” She continued: “I am so proud to be part of Baby Reindeer, and to see it get 11 Emmy nominations is incredible. To also be nominated, and alongside some of my favourite actresses, truly is a dream come true. I can’t quite believe it.”

Nava Mau has made history as the first transgender performer to be nominated for an acting award in the limited series category. She said she felt “honoured” by it, and said “how much this means to me and to the trans community”.

Tom Goodman-Hill, who played Darrien, is also nominated for his performance, and both Weronika Tofilska and Richard Gadd have been nominated for directing and writing, respectively.

The BBC synopsis for it reads: “Spanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults – with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way.”
