These are the uni cities where students get the most money from mummy and daddy

It’s probably the most expensive time ever to be a student. With the cost of living crisis massively impacting students, an NUS study found that 90 per cent of students believe the cost of living crisis is having an impact on their mental health.

But this isn’t the case for those lucky, lucky students who can rely on mummy and daddy to fund their uni lifestyle.

According to the 2023 NatWest Student Living Index, UK students receive an average of £321.15 a month from their parents.

But Oxford is the uni city where students get sent the most money from their parents per month. On average, Oxford students get £480.99 a month off mummy and daddy.

This is closely followed by Coventry who get an average of £448.28 from the bank of mum and dad each month.

With lots of other UK unis not far behind, here is a full breakdown of the university cities where students rely the most on mummy and daddy’s money.

Leicester

Students in Leicester get the least money from their parents with an average of £196.26 a month during term time.

Bournemouth

This is closely followed by Bournemouth where students get an average of £204.25 a month from the bank of mum and dad.

York

York students get an average of £210.19 a month to pay for their lifestyle at uni.

In Sheffield, students get an average of £213.86 off their mum and dad per month.

Liverpool

Liverpool students get a decent £258.21 a month from their parents whilst at uni.

Portsmouth

Students in Portsmouth receive an average of £269.69 from the bank of mum and dad during term time at uni.

Cambridge

Definitely not as high as expected, Cambridge students get an average of £309.71 from mummy and daddy per term.

Manchester

To pay for their crippling Elf Bar habits, Manchester students get an average of £328.20 off their parents each month.

Edinburgh

In Edinburgh, students get an average of £337.66 from their mum and dad every month.

Leeds

Leeds students get a total of £342.21 from the bank of mum and dad every month.

Bristol

In Bristol, students get an average of £380.31 from their parents each month. They have to pay for all the vintage Depop and Vinted garms from somewhere, right?

Birmingham

Birmingham is currently the most popular uni in the UK, according to Google Trends. But Birmingham students get an average of £386.21 from their parents each and every month.

Lincoln

In Lincoln, students get a healthy £387.03 from their parents each month.

Newcastle

It might be one of the best unis for a night out, but Newcastle students are getting £390.53 on average from their parents every month.

Lancaster

Lancaster students get an average of £396.68 from the bank of mum and dad every month.

London

London is notoriously a very expensive place to live for students, and that’s if you can even find a bed. But students who live in London get an average of £398.56 from their parents every month.

Nottingham

To fund their uni lifestyle, Nottingham students get an average of £406.71 from their parents each month.

Cardiff

Students in the capital city of Wales get an average of £417.69 in pocket money from their parents every month.

Glasgow

The uni city where students get the third highest amount of money from their parents, students in Glasgow get an average of £431.35 from their parents each month.

Coventry

With a huge £448.28 monthly average, Coventry is second in the ranking of uni cities that get the most money from their mum and dad.

Oxford

And, with no surprise to anyone, students in Oxford get the most money from mummy and daddy every month. On average they receive £480.99 from the bank of mum and dad.

However, NatWest also found that students in Oxford are the most likely to also rely on income from scholarships and bursaries compared to other UK unis.
