Mayfair nights out and glam holidays: Inside Lioness Alessia Russo’s life off the pitch
I simply must go clubbing with this woman
Alessia Russo has had an unbelievable Women’s World Cup, scoring the winning goal against Colombia which took us to the semi-final game against Australia today. She was named Manchester United Women’s Player of the Year last season and was part of the history-making team which won England the Women’s Euros in 2022. Simply put, she’s a star.
And Alessia has been living her best life off the pitch as well as on it. So, in case you’re intrigued by her life away from the Women’s World Cup tournament, here’s everything you need to know about her Mayfair nights out, glam holidays and friendship with Ella Toone:
She started playing for England in February 2020 and is 24-years-old
Alessia started playing for England in February 2020 in the SheBelieves Cup in the US. When she’s not playing for England, she’s part of the Arsenal Women’s Super League after transferring from her long-term club, Manchester United, in July.
She’s from grew up in Maidstone, Kent and has Italian heritage
Alessia grew up in Maidstone in Kent but has Italian heritage as her grandfather moved over to the UK from Sicily in the ’50s. Her grandad was a supporter of Manchester United and passed his love for the team onto Alessia. She played for Man U’s women’s team from 2020-2023.
She’s super close with her family and was always better than her brothers at football
Alessia has two brothers, Luca and Giorgio, and learnt to play football alongside them and their dad, Mario, growing up. Mario always encouraged Alessia’s football career and when he saw potential in her moved her from the local girls team to a boys team, which he told Our Game Mag got them “strange looks” from other parents. Iconic.
