All the most shocking Educating Manchester controversies over the years
The former head was banned from teaching
From Lewis bringing a blade into school, to the former head being banned from teaching indefinitely, there’s been plenty of controversies surrounding Educating Manchester over the years. So let’s have a look at the most shocking.
Lewis brought a knife into school on Educating Manchester

Year Seven student Lewis caused chaos during one episode of Educating Manchester after a member of the public informed the school that they’d seen one of the students in possession of a blade.
After the students bags were investigated, Lewis admitted that he had brought an item that might “not be allowed.”
His dad was later brought in to discuss the incident, with Lewis agreeing to make an anti-knife crime video on his YouTube channel.
Former head Mr Povey was banned from teaching over his conduct

Mr Povey from Educating Manchester was suddenly banned from the Channel 4 show, but what exactly happened?
He was the former headteacher at Harrop Fold School, but a Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) probe found he had been off-rolling pupils.
Mr Povey denied the allegations, but the TRA said his conduct had “fallen significantly short” of standards.
It was also told there had been occasions when pupils were recorded as being at school when they were not, which could have put them at risk of harm.
The board’s panel recommended Mr Povey was banned from teaching for two years, which is when Salford Council placed the school in special measures in 2018.
Mr Povey resigned in September that year, shortly after being suspended over the allegations relating to attendance and exclusions.
He was suspended with three other members of staff, and following a TRA investigation, Mr Povey was banned from teaching indefinitely in November 2024 for conduct that brought the profession into disrepute.
Two former students were arrested after filming for the show ended

Mia and Tom both appeared on Educating Manchester, alongside Lewis, however the pair were both arrested for separate incidents in the following years after the show ended.
Mia Peers, who has become a mum since appearing on Educating Manchester, was arrested in 2021 for hiding a gun and ammunition.
She was pregnant while filming the show, and was due to give birth to her second child while serving a five-year prison sentence.
The former TV star was jailed for hiding a gun for her boyfriend and has since had her sentence reduced to three years and nine months, following a Court of Appeal hearing. At the age of 20, she confessed to her mum that she had been given the self-loading pistol.
Thomas Eastwood, was jailed in 2020 for possessing a large blade. Police saw the victim crying on the road after Thomas, who was 19, followed his ex-girlfriend down the road weeks after they broke up.
He was convinced she’d been texting other guys and took her phone from her hands, hitting her hand when she tried to get it back.
Thomas was found a short while after an officer saw the victim, and found him in possession of a large kitchen knife that he had tucked inside his coat, which he had taken on a supervised visit to see his baby daughter. Police called him “violent and controlling.”
