Benaiah and Nicole reveal they originally agreed not to get married on Love Is Blind UK
Their family were incredibly 'cross' about their engagement
Benaiah and Nicole are one of my favourite couples to have come out of Love Is Blind UK season one, however it turns out they almost didn’t get married.
Yep, that’s right, in an interview with The Daily Mail the pair revealed that they’d agreed the night before the Love Is Blind weddings that they wouldn’t go through with it.
Instead, they would just see how their relationship turned out outside the show, and would ultimately say no to each other at the altar.
Benaiah recalled: “One of my friends asked whether, if the show was cancelled, we’d still go ahead and we both agreed that without the cameras we wouldn’t rush into it.
“Our hearts may have been telling us to ‘do it,’ but our heads were saying, ‘this is bonkers.'”
However, later that evening Nicole was listening to a voice note from Benaiah and realised that he was the love of her life, “why bother waiting?”
And it seems Benaiah was having similar thoughts, as he revealed he stayed awake thinking about what to do until 5:30am, before he realised he just follow his heart and marry this “wonderful woman.”
However, after keeping their relationship secret for over a year until the episodes aired, some of Nicole’s family members were “quite cross” about being kept in the dark.
As for Benaiah’s family, his parents “weren’t exactly on board” with his plans to take part in Love Is Blind UK, with Nicole also admitting her parents were unsure.
In fact, she hadn’t told them that the show could even lead to her getting married, and when a producer called her dad to tell him that Nicole was engaged he was absolutely shocked.
The pair also explained that some of their friendships were also affected by them having to keep their relationship from them for so long.
Benaiah said: “It hindered some relations. However, once they met Nicole, everyone said, ‘oh yeah, brilliant. Well done, you.’ Their upset was more about the process, I think, the fact that we couldn’t say anything.”
