One queen from the Canada series just came out
Several RuPaul’s Drag Race stars have come out as transgender since appearing on the competition: 30 of them, in fact! Aimee from the Canada show of the franchise has just shared the truth about their gender identity, becoming the 30th queen to do so.
Jinkx Monsoon
Jinkx Monsoon identified as non-binary for 10 years before coming out as transgender a while after first starring on Drag Race, and back in April earlier this year, she announced that her chosen out-of-drag name is Hera Hoffer.
Aimee
Canada’s Drag Race Aimee recently came out as trans. She said it took her 10 years to tell people but six months ago, she finally decided to “stop suffering,” which has made it the best six months of her life – and she done it on Pride Day!
Jade Jolie
Jade Jolie wrote in October 2023, “Deciding to choose myself and move forward with my transition.” She came out as trans shortly after appearing on Drag Race season five, and the rest is history! Jade said she “defeated this weird fear she had” the following month.
Trinity The Tuck
Trinity The Tuck clarified that she is trans/non-binary and asked people to stop asking her about her transition and possible surgeries, and to not comment on her looks because she’s struggling with “major body dysmorphia as well as gender dysphoria.”
Dax ExclamationPoint
Dax ExclamationPoint waited three years to come out as trans after starring on Drag Race. She wrote in a post on X that she came out as trans/non-binary to her mother, “She was as cool as she ever was when I first came out in high school. So all in all a great experience.”
Amanda Tori Meeting
After filming season 16, Amanda Tori Meeting came out as trans in an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Quick Drag podcast. Amanda had identified as non-binary for years before making her trans experience public, as people kept using the wrong pronouns.
Bosco
Bosco came out as trans in an X post in 2022, where she wrote, “I can’t really think of a better time to tell y’all so here it goes: I’m straight too,” with trans flags emojis. She began her transition in February that year, after she stopped filming Drag Race.
Kelly Mantle
Kelly Mantle came out as trans after being sent home during the first episode of Drag Race season six. She’s been on a long list of reality shows and movies since appearing on the competition, so it definitely still worked in her favour.
Peppermint
Peppermint came out to her close family and friends way back in 2012, but it wasn’t until she announced she’s trans during the ninth season of Drag Race that she made the news public – and she was the first to ever come out as trans on the show.
Kylie Sonique Love
Kylie Sonique Love made history with her trans identity! During the reunion episode for the second season of the show, she came out as trans, and later went on to become the first trans woman to win a season of the U.S version of Drag Race.
Kornbread
Kornbread came out as trans after filming Drag Race season 14. She had planned to come out while still on the show but ended up leaving the competition early due to an ankle injury, so she sadly never got the chance.
Amethyst
Amethyst came out as trans in July 2024. She admitted she’s been “struggling severely with my gender dysphoria” and then announced she had begun HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and asked her followers to help pay for her facial feminisation surgery.
Farrah Moan
Farrah Moan revealed to Give It to Me Straight with Maddy Morphosis that she suppressed her trans identity for years out of fear it would ruin her career and her chance at being on Drag Race, but ultimately having a “male persona” began to feel like being in drag to her.
Jasmine Kennedie
Jasmine Kennedie came out as trans on an episode of Untucked, after competing on season 13 of Drag Race. In April 2025, Jasmine was harassed on the New York subway for being transgender. The harasser has since been fired from his job.
Willow Pill
Willow revealed how her medical condition (cystinosis) impacted her ability to explore her transness. Later, she revealed that she is trans femme and that after Drag Race finished filming, she finally underwent female feminisation surgery.
Gigi Goode
Gigi has had hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and gender-affirming surgeries. She came out as trans and non-binary in August 2021 via Instagram video, though she had previously identified as gender-fluid. She is also in the process of legally changing her name to Gigi.
Aja
Aja began living as non-binary in 2018 but came out as trans to her Instagram followers in 2021 when she shared her crowdfunding site to help pay for her transition. She faced discrimination in the past on her passport, which was mistakenly updated to “M” (male).
Gia Gunn
Gia Gunn came out as a trans on International Transgender Day of Visibility back in 2017, where she announced that she had been on hormone replacement therapy for about a year. She’s starred on All Stars four, after Drag Race season six and The Switch season two.
Laganja Estranga
Laganja Estranga came out as trans in 2021 and underwent gender-affirming surgery earlier in 2025. She’s been described as the root of every memorable quote that’s come out of Drag Race, and works as a choreographer in Los Angeles.
Monica Beverly Hillz
Monica Beverly Hillz came out as trans live on air after Drag Race season five. She has said, “I’ve always been a woman, so what I’ve done to my body or that I hadn’t started hormones while on the show doesn’t take away my identity.”
Kenya Michaels
Kenya Michaels came out as trans after Drag Race season four and has left the industry behind after performing during the night of the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida in 2016. She now keeps a low profile.
Jiggly Caliente
Former judge of Drag Race Philippines, Jiggly Caliente came out as trans after Drag Race season four. Since then, she has co-hosted Translation, the first talk show on a major network to be hosted by an all-trans cast!
Lashauwn Beyond
Lashauwn Beyond was one of three queens in season four to come out as trans after leaving the show, alongside Jiggly Caliente and Kenya Michaels. During her appearance on Untucked, she became famous for her saying, “This is not RuPaul’s Best Friend Race.”
Stacy Layne Matthews
Stacy came out as trans after making a name for herself as “Henny” on Drag Race season three. She later returned to compete in All Stars four, but revealed five years ago how she had not finished transitioning but identifies as a transgender woman.
Carmen Carrera
After filming Drag Race season two, Carmen Carrera began her transitioning journey. She is a transgender rights and AIDS awareness activist, while spending most of her time working out and getting seriously buff!
Detox
Detox came out as trans in August 2024. She announced the news to an audience at a Drag Night Chicago event while performing alongside Willam, after starring on Drag Race season five, as well as the spin-off show, All Stars two.
Eureka
Eureka decided to come out on LGBTQ+ series We’re Here, after appearing on Drag Race. Eureka had lived as trans for five years starting at age 18 but detransitioned and lived as non-binary, but meeting a woman who transitioned at age 70 inspired her to come out as trans.
Adore Delano
Adore Delano, who is in a relationship, came out as trans during their stint on American Idol. They openly explained how they knew they were different since they were a kid, but didn’t fully embrace their identity until going on the reality show.
Trinity K. Bonet
Trinity came out as transgender but didn’t want to make a huge deal of her gender identity. She explained to Pride, “Yeah, I did come out. Lol but I’m not trying to do interviews and make a big deal about it. I’ve always been Trinity. I’m just keeping wig on. Lol.”
Valentina
Valentina decided to rethink her gender after her father’s death. She previously explained that she now identifies as being on the non-binary spectrum but that “maybe one day I’ll be trans,” and has since come out as a transgender woman as of May 2025.
