Law Roach’s shadiest shutdowns after *that* Project Runway moment had us all cringing
It really isn't the first time he read someone for filth
OK, so anyone who’s feasted their eyes on the new Project Runway episodes will have likely been left cringing in a major way recently. When Law Roach served a super shady shutdown to one contestant, we could literally feel the tension through the screen. But, before his Project Runway gig, it turns out Law Roach’s shady moments are nothing new. So, let’s take a look at the designer’s other jaw-dropping moments of total savagery! He was on RuPaul’s Drag Race, for starters…

Let’s just hold space for the Project Runway season 21 premiere for a moment. Law Roach delivered one of the most brutal critiques in recent memory. Contestant Jesus Estrada’s look had made the top three, yet Law didn’t hold back, stating: “I hated it.” When Jesus responded: “I’m sorry if you hate the coat,” Law fired back: “Oh, I hate the whole look!”
To drive home the shade, he compared the ensemble to a “Nigerian auntie” moment, prompting instant cringe and tears. People called it raw and unfiltered. But, while some compared him to Simon Cowell after the cutting comments, others labelled it cruel.
Law’s critiques didn’t stop there, as he also went in on Jesus’ twin brother, Antonio?! Giving feedback on the outfit he’d created, Law said: “If you had asked ChatGPT to help you make a Giambattista Valli for $100 then that’s what that look was…”
Poor Plasma got taken down on Drag Race
Law’s shade-proof attitude didn’t stop at Project Runway, he’s also made waves as a guest judge (and now rotating panellist) on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
In season 16, episode six (Welcome to the DollHouse), Law sat in the coveted third judge’s seat. During his critique of Plasma, he made a shocking quip: “If I would have saw [Jane] using the same fabric to create that? I’d literally punch that b*** in the throat.” A jaw-dropping moment, even by Drag Race standards.
Bringing Danny DeVito into it
Folks also vividly remember his hilariously brutal styling takedown of Geneva on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Law said: “Your doll has RuPaul’s legs, and you have Danny DeVito’s legs.”
He first noted how the skirt placement wasn’t flattering and how chunky ankle straps made her legs look stumpy, then delivered the DeVito burn that had the entire fandom cackling.
Utter disappointment
Of course, the roasting didn’t stop there. Heading back over to Project Runway and Law was reading Drag Race star Utica down. He said of her look: “The cervix is dilated and she’s crowning… It’s not beautiful, it’s not flattering, I’m actually really disappointed in you.”
Law continued: “I did not come to work and get this beautiful glam to look at a bunch of ugly f***ing clothes.”
Reddit reacts to Law
@kahlenbarry Law Roach knows exactly what he’s doing. You might not agree with his delivery, but the fashion industry is brutal. He’s preparing them. #lawroach #projectrunway #heidiklum #fashiontiktok #fashiondesigner #fashion #realitytv #reaction
Law has worked with the likes of Celine Dion, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Zendaya during his design career. He’s pretty much an icon in the fashion world. But, when it comes to his judging techniques, people can all agree: “No one is safe.”
Reddit always lights up with reactions following any of his savage comments.
“This guest judge killed it. Easily moreso than any guest ever, IMO. He had humour, good pointers… I would love to see him be a main judge,” wrote one user.
“Law has been one of the best guest judges they’ve had on the show. He’s properly critical with the knowledge and industry know-how to back it up, mixed with a c**ty a** persona…”
Whether he’s calling out a top-three Project Runway look as “hated,” threatening metaphorical punches in Drag Race, or slinging those unforgettable Danny DeVito’s legs zingers, Law Roach sets reality TV critique on fire.
Love him or loathe him, what’s undeniable is this: Law’s shade is always tailored and meticulously styled to cut through the fluff and spotlight the fashion truth. In a world where judging panels can lean safe and sweet, Law cranks the tension and the style up to eleven.
