Real Housewives of London star reveals tough reality behind making Queen’s 90th birthday cake
She was going through a huge change at the time
Nessie, who runs Chelsea Cake Company, has just joined The Real Housewives of London – and she’s not just any baker. She literally was asked to make the Queen’s 90th birthday cake on April 21, 2016, and it all happened just two weeks after Nessie gave birth.
She exclusively sat down with Reality Shrine to speak about the memorable milestone in her baking career, describing the moment as a “real great honour” before revealing it happened very fast – specifically, only 14 days after her daughter was born.
Nessie told us: “I was just coming out of a big pregnancy, and it was just a huge honour when the Royal Mint called me and commissioned me for it. We also had to go through a process, and when they chose me, it was just an absolute huge honour and I couldn’t say no to it.”
Nessie continued: “It’s definitely something I will carry for the rest of my life and being able to drive into the Tower of London where the celebration was held before it was open and cut off from the public, driving through the tower and setting up in the hall was just amazing.”
In April earlier this year, Nessie looked back and revealed that the same day nine years on “marks one of the proudest moments of my career having the extraordinary honour of making Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday cake.”
She said: “Unveiled at the iconic Tower of London, it was a celebration steeped in tradition, joy, and deep national pride, a moment I will cherish forever. To mark this historic occasion, The Royal Mint released a beautifully crafted commemorative £5 coin.”
Nessie starred on The Great British Bake Off: The Professionals in 2021, where she placed joint first in heat two, week one, with her baking partner Domino. She also runs Cooking With Kids & Co, where she gets her little ones to help her in the kitchen.
