Nicole and Ciaran are undoubtedly the strongest Love Island couple this season. But after a shock announcement from Maya Jama, fans think it “all makes sense” that she was so emotional.
Maya Jama announces split
Maya revealed she and Stormzy, who she has been on-off with since 2014, have decided to break up. The two have been together since 2014, but broke up in 2019 and spent five years apart from each other.
They wrote, “We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023,” adding that they’ve tried to make it work.
“We were 21 and 20 when we first met – both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately,” they said, adding that they’re still friends.
Love Island host sheds tears
When Ciaran and Nicole were reunited at the Casa Amor recoupling, Maya shed a tear and told them, “You’ve set me off.” Many viewers were slightly confused as to why she was so emotional about it.
Looking back though, Stormzy’s song played in the background, and now people think it makes sense following the split announcement. However, just a day after the recoupling, she was with the rapper.
They smiled while holding hands at the F1 Grand Prix on July 5, a day after the recoupling aired on July 4. So timing-wise, it doesn’t make sense, but their relationship appears to have been on the rocks.
Fans say tears ‘all make sense’
When Maya revealed she and Stormzy are no longer together, Love Island viewers looked back to the moment she started crying when she saw Ciaran and Nicole reunite.
A fan wrote, “Ciaran and Nicole saying how they missed each other. Maya is crying and Stormzy is playing in the background.” Another said, “This announcement explains why Maya was crying at the recoupling.”
“Maya Jama crying at the love island recoupling makes so much sense now. She’s going through a break up and seeing Ayo do Mimi the way he did triggered Maya’s heart break,” added a viewer.
