Reality TV star found guilty of murdering wife after his AI songs about affair played in court

Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on American Idol, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, in their Ohio home. 

On February 16, Ashley Flynn, 37, was found dead in their home in Tipp City, Ohio. Her husband, Caleb Flynn, placed a 911 call claiming that someone had broken into their home and shot his wife. By the following week, police had arrested Caleb on suspicion of murder after his electronic devices proved he wasn’t asleep. 

This week, Caleb Flynn was found guilty 

Eight days of testimony exposed Caleb Flynn’s life to the court, which included his affair, the AI songs he wrote about her, and their text messages. 

“I was up until 4 am last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail,” he wrote in a message to the woman he was having an affair with, Alleigha Botner. “I just want her dead and gone.”

One viral moment came when the AI-generated songs were played out loud, with people online immediately noticing laughter and smiles in the jury. 

“If somewhere you feel this, if somewhere you’re whole, know that you still own every piece of my soul,” one AI-produced song declared. “So here’s to the third, and the us that we lost. The third of every month I still say your name.”

After deliberating for less than three hours, the jury found him guilty of murder. He was also found guilty on additional charges of aggravated murder and tampering with evidence. 

“While the defendant told law enforcement that he was sleeping, his electronic devices documented something different. They documented movement and activity in the hours leading up to Ashley’s murder,” said Matthew C. Joseph, assistant prosecuting attorney, during closing arguments. “The defendant said he was sleeping. His devices say he was awake and moving.”

Sentencing has not yet been decided, but Caleb Flynn could very well be facing life in prison without parole. 

The TV star-turned-killer appeared on American Idol in both 2012 and 2013, singing before judges like Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Randy Jackson. He never made it past the first portion of the show.
