MAFS’ Sam reveals if Chris’ baby bombshell is really a ‘problem’ after saying he’s not ready

During the final MAFS Australia 2026 wedding, Chris subtly tried to ask Sam if he was ready for kids as he was hiding the huge bombshell that he was expecting two babies. Sam revealed he definitely wasn’t ready for children yet, so Chris kept his secret hidden, but apparently, that’s not the whole truth.

In an interview with Chattr, Sam claimed the whole not being ready for children thing was taken way out of proportion. Basically, he just “didn’t think that [having kids soon] was a possibility” so the question threw him right off guard, and Chris having kids totally wasn’t a “dealbreaker”.

“I have always been open to children, and it’s always come down to the person that I’m with will determine whether I have kids [or not]. It’s never been an absolute necessity for me, but it’s definitely never been a dealbreaker for me either, and that’s the conversation I had with the experts [before they matched us],” he said.

“When they’re showing me [at the wedding] talk about how I don’t want kids this year, [it’s because] in my head, I’m like, ‘That’s not even an option’… how could there possibly be children [soon]’?”

He continued: “Someone having kids is definitely not a reason I wouldn’t date them. [It] definitely comes down to just, I’m a pretty reasonable person. I’m not gonna not be with someone who’s perfect in every other way just because they have kids, you know? So [Chris] having kids on the way is not going to be a problem, because I’m open to it.”

In fact, he actually wishes his new husband had just told him about the babies straight away. At the time, Chris was expecting his own child via a surrogate and was a donor for one of his friends. He has since welcomed the donor baby, but sadly, the embryo transfer didn’t work for the surrogacy.

“It would have been better if [Chris] just told me straight away [about the babies on the way]. I think it’s information that’s important about the life that I’m going to have with Chris, but ultimately, I also understand and empathise with the fact that he wants to get to know me first and wanted to get me to get to know him before I knew that news,” Sam admitted.

“I’ve gone back and forth in my head whether it was the right way or the wrong way. And I think when I go back and forth on something that many times, it just means there wasn’t a right or wrong way. It was just whatever the journey was meant to be for me or him and for me.”
