Chris reveals why he went on MAFS Australia with two kids on the way, as he gets called out

People think it’s unfair to spring that on Sam

We have now been introduced to the final couple of MAFS Australia 2026, and Chris surprisingly revealed he already had two babies on the way. He’s getting called out online for being “selfish” and throwing way too much on his new husband Sam, but the groom has clapped back and revealed why he went on the show.

When the show was filmed, Chris was expecting two children, one via a surrogate in Colombia and another as a donor for two of his close friends. The surrogate’s embryo transfer sadly didn’t work, but he has since welcomed a daughter as a “donor daddy” and is still part of her life.

After the episode aired, lots of people are asking why Chris even went on the reality TV show if he was about to welcome two kids, because it doesn’t seem like great timing. In an interview with PEDESTRIAN.TV, Chris said he never applied to go on MAFS. He was scouted via Instagram and didn’t actually think he was going to get on the show.

“So I was contacted on Instagram, I sent through a video, and then I was put on hold for a little bit, so I just put it in my ‘not happening’ pile and continued with my life. Then the producer called me and said, ‘Chris, we’ve got some really great news, we found you a match’, and they really wanted a gay couple to work,” he explained.

“So yeah, sure, I had some reservations about doing it because the timing wasn’t great, but then also, there was a part of me that thought, what if they found me someone who is really matched with me and could be my husband? I’ve been looking for this forever, why don’t I try and give it a crack?”

When they told him they wanted him on the show, he couldn’t turn the opportunity down. I mean, why would you? It could be life-changing. The groom also clarified that he technically didn’t have two children on the way when he went on MAFS, because one was a donor for his friend.

“The mother has full responsibility and decision-making for that child. I only donated my sperm. I think people are mistaking the fact that it sounds like I’ve got two children coming, but that wasn’t the case,” he explained.

Chris is already planning on trying to have a baby again using another surrogate. “Basically, they transfer the embryo, and if it’s successful, you’ve got nine months. For me, I’ve already set up the child’s room at my house, and I had already planned all that,” he said.

“I did another transfer right at the end of filming, which was looking pretty good, but then the surrogate lost that. So currently, I’m still just a donor dad, and I’m starting the surrogacy program again.”
