Here’s why Rachel gets into that wooden box in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen
There was literally no explanation
Netflix’s creepy new thriller Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen has had everyone hooked, but people are really confused about that scene where Rachel gets inside the wooden box.
The eight-part series starring Camila Morrone and Victoria Pedretti is about an evil curse that infects people when they get married, and it’s all set at a creepy house in the middle of nowhere.
When the main couple, Nicky and Rachel, first arrive at the Cunningham house, things get spicy in the bedroom but Rachel suddenly stops her fiancé and tells him: “I have to do the thing.” She then climbs inside a wooden chest at the end of the bed, and Nicky shuts the lid on top of her. You hear her breathing inside while he walks around the room, and that’s literally the end of it.

There’s no explanation for why she did it, and the show quickly moves on and it’s never mentioned again. So, what’s the significance of the box? In an interview with Access Hollywood, Adam DiMarco and Camila Morrone who play Nicky and Rachel revealed it was a coping mechanism for Rachel’s anxiety.
“We had decided at the time that the box was kind of this womb symbolism. It was like a way to kind of connect to myself [Rachel], kind of like, in a new space. I [Rachel] get very anxious and disoriented. And it was like a breathing technique.” Morrone said.
DiMarco joked that he thought it was going to be something “sexual” when he first read the script and the writers had to clarify that it wasn’t. “I think the only reason it feels so sexual is because we cut to the sex scene. It really was supposed to be just Rachel grounding herself,” Morrone added.
@accesshollywood Clearing up that one NSFW thought you may have about Netflix’s ‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen.’
They aren’t the only ones who thought it was something sexual, either. Everyone online was convinced the wooden box had a secret raunchy meaning. I’m glad the actors cleared that one up.
