The scariest Cardiff Halloween drinks, ranked by how quickly you’d be kicked out the club
Drink at your own risk…
With Halloween creeping up this weekend, here are some of the scariest (and spookiest) Halloween pre-drinks.
These Halloween-themed concoctions range from “festive” to “absolute menace”, so in the spirit of questionable decisions and inappropriate costumes – here’s my ranking from worst to best, based on how quickly they would get you kicked out of the club or a social.
1. Zombie Brain Shot

Taking the top spot are these eerie zombie brain shots.
Whether you’re holding pres at your flat, or hosting a girls’ night and want to amp up the spookiness – these are disgustingly delicious go-tos that’ll get you tipsy in no time!
The combination of peach schnapps and grenadine makes this drink lean more towards the sweeter side (which usually makes it easier to neck down), but the visual of the Baileys curdling in the shot glass creates something similar to a crime scene.
Aside from its resemblance to a deconstructed brain, the aftereffects of the melon liqueur will get the bartenders on your tail the moment you walk into the pub.
2. Witches Brew

The runner-up is this neon, explosive-looking, vodka-based cocktail.
Though the alcohol percentage is not as horrifying as the previous drinks, the danger lies in the fact that it tastes like a sugary Red Bull, rather than a pint that hits you the moment it’s been downed.
With Wicked: For Good on its way, this drink definitely gives off Elphaba energy. The vodka and Midori combination undoubtedly makes up for more alcohol than necessary on a night out. Whilst the orange juice attempts to sweeten the mixture of the drink, do not let it deceive you.
This cocktail is a strong rendition of toxic waste candy in a glass. One round of these and you will probably end up being the life (and death) of the party.
5. Witch’s Sangria
@curatedbylucinda Witchy drink of the szn 🍷🌙🖤 #curatedbylucinda #fyp #fallvlogseries #falldrinkrecipe #witchesbrewsangria
To start off, we have a timeless and vintage-like curation of a sangria. During any other period, this may be at the top of the list, but in terms of following the Halloween theme of what drinks can essentially get you ready to party, a sangria seems like a zen option compared to the rest.
For any wine lovers, this may be your go-to. Using a base of red wine and the fruity tones of apple cider and pomegranate liqueur, this drink presents a much more chilled out, mystic vibe, rather than a spooky one. But beware: Whilst you may think it won’t get you feeling tipsy, a couple of glasses can get you giddy in no time.
3. Tequila Thrillers

Now to a more relatable and budget-friendly experience: Wetherspoons.
Although a normal spoons night out is likely to include a simple cocktail or a few spirits and mixers, the Tequila Thriller was a Halloween special from Wetherspoons not too long ago. These days, it’s become a secret menu, request-only item.
The drink itself is very basic, only containing cranberry juice and pineapple tequila. The whole excitement of it begins when you doctor it up – use Monster Energy drinks or Red Bull as mixers, and you’ll suddenly be feeling a buzz before you’ve even left your flat.
Whilst this Halloween classic initially rose to fame as a “secret special”, it’s a cheap, go-to drink that will most likely get you in the mood for a night out!
4. Spiderweb Cosmopolitans
@liv.yah halloween drink idea: spiderweb cosmo ❤️🥂✨ #halloween #halloweendrinks #cocktail #cocktails #cocktailrecipes #cocktailrecipe #halloweenfood #halloweendecor #halloweenparty #halloweendecorations #halloweencostume #cocktailparty #cosmo #cosmopolitan #edibleglitter #spiderweb #spooky #spookyseason #girlsnight #girlsnightout #girlsnightin #halloweenideas
This chilling composition makes its own rendition of a classic cocktail.
Though everyone appreciates the classic cosmo, it’s not usually a drink you resort to when you want to get prepped for a night on the town. But bear with me, because its messy (yet gorgeous) presentation doesn’t just look good, it tastes delicious too.
The combination of vodka, Cointreau, and lime juice mimics a bittersweet and tarty taste that will get you smacking your lips at the first sip. The optional glitter is also a hit or miss, but the aesthetic is sure to get you in your Halloween feels.
On the contrary, you could end up with sticky fingers, glitter hands, and a curated beverage that will make you question what went wrong.
