Nelly spills details of unseen MAFS moment that kicked off the Julia-Ruth and Steven drama

She says Maeve spilled the tea off-camera

Plenty of drama went down at the latest MAFS UK commitment ceremony, after Nelly revealed she’d heard Julia-Ruth was scheming to stay on the show just in case she got to move in with Steven during couples’ week. The ensuing arguments became pretty hard to follow, since we missed the crucial moment when Nelly actually found this out. Thankfully, Nelly has aired details of how Julia-Ruth’s comments emerged.

Apparently, Nelly only discovered Julia-Ruth‘s plan off-camera on the day of this MAFS commitment ceremony. This explains why the incident wasn’t brought up earlier.

During a Q&A on her Instagram story, Nelly shared: “These commitment ceremonies are long days, we have breaks for food, toilet breaks and then just general breaks. Julia-Ruth had had quite a lot of heat at this point of the commitment ceremony and I actually mentioned to one of the girls, I was like: ‘I actually feel really bad, I might just go and check in on her’.

“I was with Maeve. It was at that point she said: ‘I know you want to check in on her because that’s the type of person you are, but you do need to know what she’s been saying behind your back.”

Keye then backed up that Julia-Ruth had said these things about Steven on the group day out. This all happened approximately five minutes before filming resumed, and Nelly and Steven were called up to the couch.

Nelly also shaded Julia-Ruth in an Instagram post after the commitment ceremony aired on MAFS. She wrote: “I also learned that not everyone around you always has pure intentions. I found out just before the couch that a ‘friend’ had been manipulating me, and I wasn’t about to stay quiet about it. I don’t play those games. I wasn’t going to let my kindness be mistaken for weakness.”

Julia-Ruth hasn’t confirmed or denied telling people she wanted to stay on MAFS in case she got to spend more time with Steven. We did see her clarify on TV that she made these comments to a group, as part of a broader conversation about the other MAFS contestants. Julia-Ruth also shared on Instagram that the most recent MAFS episodes to air were part of “a week from hell” in which she was “feeling extremely isolated, lonely and emotionally drained”.
