Tyler the Creator’s old tweets are putting his offensive past in the spotlight
‘One of the worst digital footprints ever’
Tyler, the Creator has had a great year, off the back of the release of his newest album and tour. But the rapper is now under fire after old tweets and images of his have found their way back on everyone’s timelines.
The resurfaced tweets are mostly from 2010 and 2011. They include praise for controversial figures like R. Kelly and Diddy, as well as problematic statements about black history month. This all came to light after his D’Angelo tribute on Instagram attracted some comments that caused controversy across social media.
What actually started all of this?
Tyler is in a super successful era of his career. He was just announced as the All Points East headliner for the entire weekend next year – the first time the festival has had one headliner. He’s also just about to make his acting debut alongside Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme.
Last week, beloved R&B legend D’Angelo passed away at just 51 years old. Lots of musicians who were inspired by him posted heartfelt tributes, including Tyler.

According to Complex, Tyler has allegedly been deleting tweets, including one where he said he hated Andre from Victorious. He was about 20 years old when the majority of these tweets were posted.
It’s not the first time Tyler has been in hot water because of his past – he was actually banned from entering the UK because of his offensive song lyrics for four years .
