Every time Justin Bieber’s posts this year had people convinced he was shading Selena Gomez
I have actually lost count
Honestly, it feels like the internet just can’t let this duo go. Even though Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have both moved on, he’s married to Hailey and she’s married to Benny Blanco, but any little thing Justin posted online this year had people convinced he’s throwing shade.
So, here’s a breakdown of every Justin Bieber moment that had people saying, “Uh… is he shading about Selena Gomez?”
The ‘pointed’ engagement meme

Earlier this year, Justin shared a meme poking fun at how women post about their engagement rings. The post featured a scene from The Lord of the Rings where Gollum inspects a ring with total awe. Because Selena had recently shared her engagement to Benny Blanco, people immediately assumed the meme was directed at her. Even if it was meant to be harmless, the timing made everyone read into it hardcore.
Putting Lizzy McAlpine’s song on a pic

Justin also posted a photo of him and Hailey with Lizzy McAlpine’s All My Ghosts playing in the background. The lyrics talk about trying to move on from past loves, and people suggested he was sending a subtle message about Selena’s engagement. Many thought the timing was suspicious, given it came shortly after Selena announced her marriage.
The album SWAG

In July, Justin released his album SWAG right after Selena released I Said I Love You First with Benny. The cover featured Justin and Hailey, and the internet immediately read it as shade toward Selena, even though the album itself focuses on Justin’s life with Hailey and personal experiences. Timing, as always, played a big role in the speculation.
The cryptic basketball post

Now recently, Justin shared a carousel of himself playing basketball in Los Angeles. The post included his own song I Do, a romantic ballad about Hailey. Since Selena’s wedding to Benny was happening less than 100 miles away, people thought the timing was awkward. Comment sections quickly filled with messages like, “You lost her, get over her,” and playful jabs comparing Benny and Justin.

Justin later shared an anniversary photo of Hailey in silky lingerie, captioning it “Happy anniversary bb”, four days after Selena and Benny tied the knot. People were not impressed, calling the post “disrespectful” and suggesting he was showing off Hailey at a very inconvenient moment.
Basically, any post that Justin makes, songs, memes, pics, even album covers, is dissected for hidden meanings. People love to drag him, Hailey, and Selena into this constant triangle, even when nothing shady is confirmed. It’s like the internet has a permanent subscription to “Justin Bieber vs. Selena Gomez: The Saga Continues.”
Well, it’s safe to say this saga isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
