Woman posts viral TikTok after learning that ‘odd’ serial killer Ed Gein babysat her great-aunt

She called her aunt for confirmation

People watching Monster: The Ed Gein Story were shocked to learn that the serial killer was a babysitter in his small town of Plainfield, Wisconsin.

Though Ryan Murphy’s latest Monster project fabricated quite a lot about the life of Ed Gein, elements of his babysitting job were actually real. According to Deviant by Harold Schechter, Ed and his brother Henry were widely considered quite reliable in the community. Henry did odd jobs around town for cash, and Ed was known to babysit his neighbours. Though it’s not confirmed whether Ed actually did take kids to his notorious house of horrors, the book claims he read his wards creepy stories.

In the show, we also saw Ed’s revenge killing of another babysitter who took his job. 15-year-old Evelyn Hartley, played by the surprisingly talented Addison Rae, went missing. While she is widely considered to be one of Ed’s victims, he never admitted to the crime, and no damning evidence was found.

That’s about all we know about Ed Gein’s babysitting career, but in an odd viral moment, a TikToker has claimed that he once looked after members of her family.

Ed Gein was allegedly this girl’s aunt’s babysitter

Upon sitting down to watch the new Netflix show, Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Liv found herself remembering odd details from her childhood. Of course, she then posted a TikTok that has since been viewed 300k times.

“[I’m watching] this new Ed Gein Netflix show. I’ve been calling my dad, and he’s not answering in typical fashion, because I have a specific childhood memory that my dad told me,” she revealed. “Ed Gein was the childhood babysitter of my great aunt, great uncle, the greats in my family.”

Apparently, Ed was the “go-to” babysitter when he was a high school student. She didn’t have any further details, and she only remembered because the moment “gave me nightmares” as a kid.

After talking with her dad, who confirmed the childhood memory, Liv noted how her family thought Ed Gein was an “odd guy” during his time as a babysitter. Obviously, “they clearly never thought he was that crazy.”

Liv’s aunt also confirmed that she was babysat by Ed Gein, but she couldn’t remember any details from the time. Liv said she’d make more videos if any specific details popped up.

Though some people didn’t believe Liv, joking that “Ed Gein was my dog groomer”, she questioned why she would have made it up. Surely, if you’re going to invent a story, you make it as viral and shocking as possible. Calling the man who made a human skin suit an “odd guy” is hardly groundbreaking.

Amidst the joking comments, other people shared seemingly real links to the serial killer.

“My high school drama teacher was babysat by him, and my grandpa used to buy pigs from him,” one person wrote.

Another said: “My youth group leader’s husband was also babysat by him.”
