Lyrics from Taylor Swift’s new album leaked and people think it’s a Charli XCX diss track
‘I heard you call me Boring Barbie when the coke’s got you brave’
Erm, drama is about to erupt. Forget Nicki and Cardi fighting again – the real sh*t is about to hit the fan as Taylor Swift is about to release her new album The Life of a Showgirl and lyrics have leaked suggesting a diss track levied at Charli XCX. It seems messy, but this also feels like it’s been building for a while if it’s actually about Charli. There is a lot of lore, and I’m going to try best to explain it as Actually Romantic by Taylor Swift sees its alleged lyrics leak and there are plenty of signs pointing towards it being a Charli XCX diss track.
It’s the track Actually Romantic

Actually Romantic from The Life of a Showgirl is the one in the firing line here. Instantly, we can find a connection to Charli – who had a song on Brat called Everything is Romantic. To catch you up on some lore here, Taylor Swift was dating Matty Healy of the 1975 and Charli XCX has now married George Daniel – Matty’s best mate and band member. This meant Taylor Swift and Charli XCX had to see each other quite a bit during that time.
Charli has opened for Taylor in the past, but last year many people interpreted her track Sympathy is a Knife on Brat to be about Taylor Swift. The song said some mean things about its subject matter, but also was very clear about how that song is about Charli’s insecurity about her place in the industry and about how by seeing Taylor brought out the worst traits in her.

It appears this subtext was lost on Taylor Swift, if the Actually Romantic lyrics are actually a Charli XCX diss track because… these are wild.
‘When the coke’s got you brave’
Erm, so the eyebrow raising lyrics are some of the most savage Taylor Swift has ever written. The first line says “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave”. This is of course the first klaxon people had thinking it was about Charli XCX after the alleged diss track title, because you don’t need Taylor Swift to break any bombshell that Charli is ‘bumpin it’ and doing ‘a little key’ and ‘a little line’. It was all over Brat.
The rest of the lyrics say it’s ‘actually romantic’ how obsessed the subject matter of the song is with Taylor, and that she’s giving her so much attention and not talking about anything else.
It’s all a bit of a contrast if Actually Romantic is Taylor Swift doing a Charli XCX diss track – because last year she gave a nice quote to the press about Charli.
To New York Magazine last year, Taylor said of Charli: “I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011. Her writing is surreal and inventive, always. She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off.”
