Just moments before the game began, he posed for a smiling photo with a friend and fellow player, Jaisal Singh. That photo is now believed to be the last ever taken of him alive. Witnesses told The Telegraph that shortly after that, Kapur suddenly cried out: “I’ve swallowed something!”
Within seconds, he collapsed on the field. A bee had reportedly flown into his mouth and stung him inside. The sting triggered anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction that caused his heart to stop. According to the Mayo Clinic, stings in the mouth are extremely dangerous because they can block airways and quickly lead to cardiac arrest.
Despite help from medics on-site, Kapur could not be saved. The game was stopped, and teammates were left in shock.
At the time, he had been playing with his team Aureus in the Queen’s Cup against the Sujan Indian Tigers, a match often attended by members of the British royal family.
Kapur’s teammates later posted a tribute, saying: “You were the life and soul of our team. Your legacy will remain forever.”
