19-year-old from Arizona dies after taking part in dangerous ‘dusting’ TikTok trend
Her parents are trying to spread awareness about the dangers
A 19-year-old from Arizona has sadly died after taking part in a very dangerous trend which has emerged on TikTok called “dusting”.
Renna O’Rourke passed away on Sunday 1st June after spending four days in intensive care, her dad revealed on a GoFundMe page.
She never regained consciousness after taking part in the “dusting” trend, which involves sniffing a dusting spray to try and get high. She was then pronounced brain-dead.
Similar to “chroming” and “huffing,” these dangerous TikTok trends see teens filming themselves inhaling chemical-based products like paint thinner or household cleaners.
“She was the light in every room she walked into, and the pain that her family and friends feel is simply immeasurable,” the GoFundMe continued.
The family wants to use the proceeds to cover the extensive medical bills, burial costs, therapy costs, and to “spread awareness about the dangers of dusting” and similar trends to other teenagers and parents.

“We are currently actively working on both a TV news segment and pursuing legislation to help prevent any other families from having to go through this,” they said.
Renna’s mum told AZ Family the law needs to be changed as no ID is currently required to buy these dangerous household products.
“It’s everything kids look for. They can afford it, they can get it, and it doesn’t show in mom and dad’s drug test,” he said.
The 19-year-old and her boyfriend Door Dashed the product to the house without her parents knowing, which is like Deliveroo, showing how easy it is for teens to access.

“We want to make sure that we use our tragedy so that no other parent has to experience looking at their child on life support and a ventilator and not breathing on her own all because she huffed out of a can,” she told 12 News.
