Jade Thirlwall shares brutal message for JK Rowling as thousands join in with pro-trans chant
She really is the IT Girl
Thousands of people screamed and cheered on Saturday when Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall served up a savage take-down of JK Rowling and the anti-transgender rhetoric she has been peddling for the last few years.
Though millions of people know her as the author of the Harry Potter series, in 2025, JK Rowling is more often associated with the anti-trans movement. It’s pretty hard to escape. Although most celebrities have stayed cautiously far away from the author’s controversy, aside from a few icons such as Nicola Coughlan and Emma Watson, Jade Thirlwall took no prisoners at Mighty Hoopla this weekend.

The festival, which has long been linked to the LGBTQ+ community, saw Jade perform bangers from her Little Mix career and popular solo tracks such as Angel of My Dreams and IT Girl. Before jumping into FUFN, she listed off various icks and had the crowd responding “f*ck you” in unison. Things on her list included performative allyship, transphobes, and JK Rowling.
The video, which was initially shared on TikTok by @adamandrws, has since amassed 110k views on the platform and a further 14k on Pop Crave’s Twitter.

Jade has a long history of LGBTQ+ allyship, acting as an ambassador for Stonewall and being awarded the Gay Times Honour for Allyship in 2021. She’s always been an outspoken advocate, and people love her for it. As you might expect, the reaction to Jade Thirlwall’s anti-JK Rowling chant has been met with division on Twitter, with some thanking her for making a point and others accusing her of not protecting women.

“JK Rowling getting the biggest f*ck you, rightly so. Jade showed everyone how to be an ally,” one person wrote on the original post.
“Been a fan of jade since I was a young doll, I KNEWWWW she would stand up for us,” another said.
Someone else wrote: “We learn from history what happens when good people stand by and say nothing. We need to be allies and call out hate!”
There were also lots of tweets criticising Jade’s chanting moment, but one voice is seemingly quiet: JK Rowling’s. We know that she spends a huge amount of time on Twitter and is not afraid to call someone out, but it’s yet to be seen whether she’ll take a break from her usual programming to respond to Mighty Hoopla’s cutting comments.
