All the iconic Harry Potter cast who have bashed JK Rowling for her views on trans people

Some of these responses are so savage

When JK Rowling first published her, ahem, controversial essay about trans people, the cast of the Harry Potter films were pretty split about their support of her. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on trans people (which JK Rowling heavily backed) several Harry Potter cast members have criticised her. Here are all the iconic Harry Potter cast members who have dragged JK Rowling.

Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t talk to JK Rowling anymore

He hasn’t been on speaking terms with JK Rowling since she started tweeting about transgender people in summer 2020. Daniel Radcliffe told The Atlantic that this makes him “really sad”. He said: “Obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person. But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.”

Remember Oliver Wood? The Quidditch dude? The actor who played him, Sean Biggerstaff, seems to spend a lot of his free time tweeting about JK Rowling.

When the Supreme Court announced its controversial ruling about transgender people, and JK Rowling posted a picture of her smoking a cigar. She also attempted to make a joke about a blunt that “decided to identify” as a cigar.  Sean responded, “Bigotry rots the wit.”

He also reposted a comment which compared JK Rowling to Andrew Tate.

He also responded to a comment which criticised the golden trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The X user shared a picture of the three actors and wrote, “Wonder how these disloyal bags of sh*t are doing today?” Sean replied: “You don’t have to wonder. You know what they’re doing – leading happy and successful lives, having not driven their families away with their hateful obsessions.”

Emma Watson and other cast members have signed an open letter

Emma Watson has now signed a letter criticising the Supreme Court’s ruling (which JK Rowling heavily backed).

Over a thousand British film and TV professionals have signed this open letterin solidarity with the trans, non-binary, and intersex communities who have been impacted by the Supreme Court ruling on April 17th”.

You can search the document and find out exactly which Harry Potter cast members have signed. So far, Emma Watson, Eddie Redmayne, Katie Leung have added their names. The actor Paapa Essiedu has also signed the actor even though he’s been cast as Severus Snape in JK Rowling’s new Harry Potter TV remake?

After signing the letter, Emma Watson posted a rather cryptic message to her Instagram. It reads: “To the person who said they like me best when I am not ranting about politics: I like me best when I am not ignoring fascism.”

Emma Watson previously spoke out about trans rights following JK Rowling’s controversial essay. She wrote: “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

David Tennant and JK Rowling definitely don’t see eye to eye

David Tennant is extremely supportive of trans rights and the LGBTQ+ community. JK Rowling keeps making snide remarks about him, and he keeps responding.

Last year, David Tennant said he wished Kemi Badenoch (who has some rather outspoken views about trans people) would “shut up”. When Kemi Badenoch was elected leader of the Conservative party in November, JK Rowling wrote: “My thoughts and prayers are with David Tennant at this very difficult time.”

At Planet Comicon Kansas City in March, David Tennant was asked whether he would consider having a role in the new Harry Potter show. He said: “I’m told there’s an executive producer who doesn’t love me on that show.”

(Just to clarify, JK Rowling is executive producing the show.)

This week, David Tennant was asked about JK Rowling on a TV show called The Assembly. He responded: “JK Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories, and I wish her no ill will, but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way.”
