Recently divorced and nearly broke, here’s how MAFS Australia’s Morena became a DJ at 53
She’s got the best mum dancing in the biz
MAFS Australia bride Morena Farina is a character, to say the least, with a fiery personality, a penchant for long, drawn-out monologues, and a unique career as a wedding DJ.
Too often, middle-aged people are overlooked in the world of reality television, but thankfully, this is one area where the MAFS franchise seems to excel. This year we had Morena and her husband Tony Mojanovski, and while they weren’t endgame, it was interesting to see a couple with different lived experiences from those decades younger. It was also refreshing to see a couple who didn’t secretly want to become influencers after the show.
Typically, people abandon their decades-long careers for a chance in the spotlight following their stint on reality TV, but MAFS’ Morena is anything but typical. She actually made a huge career switch in her 50s, moving away from fitness classes and into the highly competitive world of music.
Look, she’s no Martin Garrix, but Morena Farina can spin those decks with the best of them – take a look.
MAFS’ Morena became a DJ three years after her divorce

“I divorced at 50, but then three years into running a household on your own on one wage? Wow. [I thought] What am I going to do?” DJ Morena told Nine ahead of her MAFS appearance.
Running fitness classes before her foray into the world of music, Morena said the “penny dropped” when a stranger pointed out the transferable skills between the two jobs.
“I went on Monday morning to my fitness class, and the penny dropped. I’m already a DJ,” she added. “These people are nuts about me, they come into my class and I joined the dots. Fitness is runners and water, DJ-ing is high-heels and alcohol.”

Morena had spent most of her divorce settlement, but with her last $20k, she made the daring choice to funnel the remaining funds into her new DJ career. She bought the necessary equipment, state-of-the-art by all accounts, but then the pandemic hit and she was trapped in her home.
“Two days later, guess what happened? Lockdown. Everyone said, ‘You spent your last $20,000, you idiot,'” she recalled. “I said, nah. I’m going to have the best stereo in my neighbourhood!”
@djmorenaofficial Spinning the decks and turning up the vibe, I dropped two absolute icons, Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”. On their own, they’re legendary. But together? Magic. The energy was electric as Whitney’s infectious vocals met Bowie’s cool groove, creating a dancefloor moment that felt both nostalgic and totally fresh. Watching the crowd light up, moving in sync to this unexpected mashup, reminded me why I love what I do, blending the unexpected and making it work. Different styles. Different eras. One seamless vibe. Throughout Australia’s lockdown, Morena honed her skills in what I can only imagine as an Eye of the Tiger-style montage involving tree trunks and old tyres – or whatever the DJ equivalent is. She said her bedroom was basically a “nightclub” for the duration of the lockdown.
“I cannot believe I’ve had the courage to try something that’s extremely difficult to learn,” Morena added. “I was told that no one is going to want me because I don’t know enough about DJing, I know nothing about computers… whose gonna want a 53-year-old to DJ? Well, they were wrong. The rest is history!”
She predominantly plays weddings
@djmorenaofficial I love what I do, When people aren’t dancing and are sitting at the table, you don’t wait for them to come to you….. you go to them, bring the energy, and make them part of the moment 🎧🫶🏼 #dj #melbourne #melbournedj #2025 #fyp #foryou #event #musica #marriedatfirstsight #mafs #marriedatfirstsightaustrailia #disco #boogie #djlife #djlifestyle #weddingdj #music #80s #80smusic #lover #90s #90smusic
Now 57, Morena is only four years into her career as a DJ. We probably won’t be seeing her headlining Love Saves The Day or Parklife anytime soon, but if you’re getting married, she should be top of your list.
By the looks of her Instagram and TikTok, a Morena Farina wedding is a nonstop party where everyone is having a blast – especially Morena herself. She’s got high energy, a big, beaming smile, and unrivalled mum dancing. There’s also a lot of audience participation at a Morena show, and she very often takes to the dancefloor with a microphone in hand. What more could you ask for?
What kind of music does Morena play?

Before you hurry along and book Morena for your wedding, it might be helpful to know the kind of tunes you can expect at your reception. Combing through her socials, here are some of the tracks she’s mixed in the past.
- Like a Prayer (Madonna)
- Crazy in Love (Beyoncé)
- Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (ABBA)
- Starships ( Nicki Minaj)
- Be My Lover (La Bouche)
- We Like to Party (Vengaboys)
- Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry)
- Let’s Get Loud (Jennifer Lopez)
- Dynamite (Taio Cruz)
- Unwritten (Natasha Bedingfield)
Basically, if it’s got even an ounce of cheese to it, Morena is playing it at someone’s wedding. Iconic.
