Lady Gaga uploaded new Mayhem album to YouTube early – here’s why it’s not what it seems

She is actually insane for this

No, you did not read that wrong. Overnight, Lady Gaga has uploaded a full 14 track long playlist in the releases section of her YouTube channel with the title Mayhem – and all the upcoming correct track names for her new album. Mayhem is not supposed to be released til Friday, March 7th – but here are 11 new songs including Disease, Die With A Smile and Abracadabra. So, what’s going on? Why would Lady Gaga drop all these new songs way before the album came out? With many people confused by Stef’s ways here – here’s what’s actually going on with all these songs. Everything is not what it seems with Lady Gaga uploading ‘Mayhem’ to YouTube so here’s what you need to know about her clever, tricking ways!

Mayhem by name, mayhem by nature seems to be the modus operandi for this album era.

Well, it’s not the actual Mayhem album

No – Lady Gaga did not release her album Mayhem early on YouTube. She instead decided to both cause chaos and delight with her fans and beyond, and it’s all a bit confusing unless you’re in the know so for those who are stumped here’s what’s gone down.

For the 11 tracks that we don’t know from Mayhem – aka anything that isn’t Die With A Smile, Disease and Abracadabra – Lady Gaga has uploaded an unreleased or demo from her catalogue in its place. I assume she is parodying and referencing the common tendency for an artist’s new release album to leak prior to its launch date with many bootleg audios circling the internet. These 11 songs she’s uploaded are all ones that have leaked online throughout her career and there are some major fan favourites in the mix. Even ones that have gone viral!

The full list of what they’re called on YouTube from the Mayhem tracklist VS what they actually are is as follows:

  • Garden Of Eden = Wonderful
  • Perfect Celebrity = The Greatest Thing
  • Vanish Into You = Take You Out
  • Killah = Second Time Around
  • Zombieboy = Animal
  • LoveDrug = I Wanna Be With You
  • How Bad Do U Want Me = Hello Hello
  • Don’t Call Tonight = Freakshow
  • Shadow Of A Man = Filthy Pop
  • The Beast = Earthquake
  • Blade Of Grass = Brooklyn Nights

Some of these songs will have fans truly losing their mind. I Wanna Be With You will be familiar to fans of Artpop – as it is Dope’s original demo. The Greatest Thing is a duet with Cher – yep, CHER – that was originally meant to come out in 2012-ish after Gaga and Red One gave Cher the original version. Despite both parties being excited initially for it to come out, Gaga eventually stopped its release because she was unhappy with how her vocals sounded on it. Cher expressed her disappointment at the time.

Most exciting is the final of these unreleased being Brooklyn Nights – a fan fave unreleased from the Artpop era that went viral on TikTok last year. All these songs are now here in the best quality fans have ever heard them.

As of right now, it remains unclear what will happen when the actual Mayhem gets released on Friday. These songs might be gone forever when the YouTube releases section of Gaga’s channel changes to reflect the actual album. So make the most of them whilst we’ve got them!
