Nirvana to Miles Teller: Celebrities who made surprise appearances at the FireAid concerts
Billie Eilish appeared in the middle of Green Day’s set
So, we knew the LA FireAid concerts were going to be full of celebrities. Katy Perry, Olivia Rodrigo and Lady Gaga all performed last night to raise money for people affected by the Los Angeles fires. But even more famous famous made surprise appearances than we’d predicted, and I’m still recovering. Here’s a rundown of all the celebrities who made surprise appearances at the LA FireAid concerts last night.
The surviving Nirvana band members rocked up (literally)
A surprise Nirvana reunion was not on my bingo card for the night. The band weren’t listed on the line-up for the evening, but appeared near the end of the concert at Kia Forum.
Loads more celebrities made surprise appearances during Nirvana’s set at FireAid. A different female singer subbed in for Kurt Cobain for each song. St. Vincent sang Breed, Kim Gordon sang School, and Joan Jett sang Territorial Pissings. The drummer Dave Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter Violet appeared right at the end to sing All Apologies, and she absolutely smashed it.
Miles Teller made a really moving speech
The mansion he lived in with his wife Keleigh Teller burned down in the Pacific Palisades Fire.

Miles Teller went on stage and said: “First I just want to give a shout-out. I know there’s a lot of first responders here tonight. I know there are a lot watching at home. So, thank you all for keeping us safe. Thank you. My wife and I, like so many others in the Pacific Palisades, lost our home in the fires and my heart breaks for everyone who has been affected across the city. Truly, my heart goes out to all you guys.”
He then invited his neighbour onto the stage, who talked about how the fires affected him and his family. They introduced Olivia Rodrigo together.
Samuel L. Jackson was the host?!
The actor started the concert at the Intuit Dome. He said: “We are all here to watch some incredible music and hold each other up. The fires were devasting. But the firefighters in this town, from all over the country, and even from other countries, saved so many lives and so many homes. Even while they fought for us, some of them lost their homes.”
He encouraged the audience to clap and cheer for the hundreds of first responders who were in the audience.
Samuel L. Jackson then introduced a firefighter from Los Anglees called Chien Yu, and his family. Chien Yu described how he got his kids out the area, then went to tackle the Eaton Fire while his own house burned down.
Billie Eilish popped up during Green Day’s set
So, we knew Billie Eilish was going to perform with her brother Finneas. They’re literally from Los Angeles. But we did not expect her to also appear at the Kia Forum concert. While Green Day were performing Last Night on Earth, Billie Eilish casually strolled onto the stage and starting singing with them. Queen.
Kamala Harris was in the audience
She watched the concert at the Intuit Dome with her husband. Very brat of her.
Jimmy Kimmel turned up
Because it wouldn’t be a celebrity event without Jimmy Kimmel attempting to be funny. He introduced himself by saying, “Hi, I’m Olivia Rodrigo,” encouraged people to donate, and announced that Lady Gaga was up next.
